Another "What is this wire for" thread. 84 cab
Hi everyone, I've been working on putting my wiring back together again. Ok, it's been a fifteen year process, I know, I know. Part of my problem is remembering what I originally was doing. I know that I bought a bunch of OEM harnesses from Porsche, back when you could still do that. And I have spare wiring also. It's pretty tedious trying to get back into it. I used to do this kind of thing all the time, and the skills aren't coming back easily.
Here's my current problem. I've been using factory manuals mostly for decoding the wires. But, today, I looked at my Bentley manual and saw a picture that doesn't coincide with my front fuse box. Here's my current fuse panel. ![]() And here is a spare that I pulled from a wreck of the same year. It was also a cab. ![]() In the Bentley manual it has a picture of this plug for my year. What is it for? And do I have the wrong setup for my car? |

Thanks Gerry, but I'll look at it tomorrow. But I'm pretty sure I've gotten the headlight washer system installed to the harness. Will take a picture tomorrow. I really appreciate the help! Ed

It's looking like the headlight washer junction, wiring colors aren't perfect, but generally looking like it is right. Now, I've got a real dilemma. It looks like the front harness I put in didn't have the headlight washer option on it, and my car has the headlight washers in it. I could put in my spare harness, its in pretty good shape, but it has central locking, which my car doesn't have. Would that be a big issue? I'm not too excited to tear out all the work that I've done. But, if it's a good idea, I'll do it. It's not like I've been getting any real headway lately... it's all open, and I can get it out pretty quick. Anyone have a vote? Thanks a lot for the help. Ed

Harness.

If you document the existing harness wiring, you should be able to re-install the original portion of the harness. If you have the time do it. Never in 30 years have we used the washers on our '86. So basically, It's your call. So far as the CL, you can isolate those wires. As a retired engineer, I have a tendency to get a bit anal about just about any task at hand. Good luck, Gerry pm me as needed.
