Pedal Assembly will NOT come apart...

Seriously, I cannot figure this one out. I've had some seized metals before, but this one is freakin in there.... 1968 912 assembly. Roll pin is out, i have heated, cooled, heated cooled, PB blaster, Kroil, every thing... beat the snot out of it, and it won't budge. And yes, I have pulled the roll pin out first of course..... any advice, please?!

I tried the press as well, getting this thing stabilized to where it will stay in place while pressing is near impossible... and any more force than I'm putting on it will like bend the damn thing in half.

Well this thread will now turn into a "looking for a pedal assembly" post i guess.... I worked on it a bit more, got the shaft to move about halfway through the pedal, then dead stop.... it's done. Now it just deforms and bends the shaft.... Who's got a pedal assembly?

It might not be of use to you now, but as I was recently researching methods to separate stuck and rusted stuff I found out that the best chemical solution to the problem is a 50/50 mixture of acetone and ATF. This mixture makes Kroil, PB Blaster etc. look like childs play.

The pedal should survive and you can always warm it gently and tease it back to the correct shape as your experience is sadly all too common.

You can dress the hole in the pedal with a reamer and fit a new pedal shaft.

If you struggle to find a shaft we have just started making new replacements as we have a bagful that are too corroded to be used again.

There is someone in Los Angeles area that rebuilds or used to rebuild the assemblies.
maybe they advertise in the local PCA mag.
Good luck

I had this same experience on my 912 several years back. Roll-pin out, but still would not separate. I finally took a Dremel with a small cut-off wheel and split the end of the part so it would relieve the tension and allow release from the shaft. For reassembly, I drilled out the roll-pin hole on each part and placed an M6 Allen-bolt and nut through to re-clamp everything. I have been driving the car daily this way for 4 years now with no problems.

A method that worked for me on severely rusted parts was to soak them in white vinegar, a mild acid.

Five gallon bucket
White vinegar ('bout four bucks a gallon)
Soak for a week
Agitate daily, so it can get up in the hard to reach areas

It will strip the paint and rust off everything. Don't let drips get on your driveway, it will stain. I did a ton of parts this way and it really worked very well. Hit them with a brass brush after and they'll look like shiny new metal. My pedal assembly looked way worse than yours.
