Center console erradication.

I want to get rid of my center console and was wondering if anyone had positive thought on taking the AC controls and putting them into the dash, exchanging them with the cigarette lighter and the driving lights knobs. (no driving lights, rs front and I don't smoke)
Anyone have ideas for me?

Brad-

I removed the center console on my SC. I mounted my two AC controls underneath the dash (out of sight, but within reach) via an L-shaped plastic bracket and an existing bolt or screw. Make sure you realize that you'll also have some large slits in your carpeting to deal with.

I've since also removed my condensor and compressor, but plan on keeping all lines, controls, evaporator, etc... intact. I wanted to reduce weight and make it easier to work in the engine compartment without going passed the point of no return.

I lived in Florida for 9 years and remeber what having no AC did for the resell value-might be different now that so many Porsches are bought and sold on the net.

Actually I've considered the same thing, but I've got the central locking switch as well as the AC controls. I've thought of suspending them under the dash. Otherwise the center console is a whole lot of taking up space and adding unnecessary weight (tho' probably not much)

Brad-

I can't post pics quickly since I don't have a digital camera. I try to take some pics on the next roll of film, develope them, and then scan and post them-archaic I know.

I've been meaning to take some pics for a while. My interior transformation was pretty radical. I went from a cork and plaid interior to black w/ RSA door panels, black RS carpet, deleted the center console and rear seats, and black w/ white pin stripe sport seats from a 930.

It's an ongoing poject since I still want to replace my 35 year old dash board. I'm not completely happy with the "dye". Results are better than expected, but since its only a surface coating it is subject to scratchiing through. I plan on either replacing my panels with used black ones or having them recovered in black vinyl.
