Exclamation Ignition update question

I'm about to swap out my oem plug wires from 1982 with some clewett 8mms. Going to put in some new plugs as well. Rotor and cap are on the list too.

I currently have the oem black coil too, which I was thinking of replacing with an MSD blaster 2. I would run an ep407 resister less rotor if I do this.

My question is will I gain anything with moving to the msd coil? Has my oem one likely weaken over time? OEM plug gap is 7mm, I've read people changing to 5mm with the coil change.

Thanks in advance. 82 SC.

I have some concerns about matching a blaster coil to a CDI unit. The Blaster coil is specified to have about 8mH inductance. This is way too high inductance for a CDI unit. The stock coil has a much lower inductance (it's really a transformer) and is not intended to store energy, but instead transfer the discharge energy. My observation has been that when hooking a coil with high inductance (intended for a Kettering ignition for energy storage during the dwell time, and release when the points open) to a CDI discharge, the spark appears to be quite a bit weaker. The discharge current into those coils is considerably lower as the inductance slows the buildup of current. Just my opinion. I know lots of people run the Blaster coil with the MSD, and with other CDI units. Of course they 'work', in fact I think they are pretty 'easy' on the CDI units since the discharge current is considerably lower and I expect less energy is actually transferred to the plugs.
