Question while rebuilding my suspension...

Guys,

I am currently going through a full suspension rebuild and - have the following question I would be very thankful for some opinions on:

I plan on powder coating most of the parts. The question comes on the front/rear hubs AND the rear control arms. Has anyone actually gotten these components powder coated? or, do most individuals simply sand-blast them and call it a day? My current parts are very dirty... as can be imagined by looking at the front hubs alone:

Those of you that have rebuilt your suspensions --- how did you go about this?

Thanks,
Paul

Personally i would bring the parts to a machine shop and have them hot tank it or see if any places near you can perform dry ice blasting. The hubs i would not powder coat either, mainly because i used to regularly inspect the hubs on my track car for cracks. Not saying this will be a problem on a street driven 911, but just old habits for me.

For sure clean them up as much as you can as nothing goes into a shop's tank that is not free of dirt, plus shows respect for the process. These clean up very nicely and you will be both surprised and glad you left them in natural finish.

If you elect to coat them, you will need to remove any material on the flats that mate to the rotor.

I powder coated my rear control arms, less maintenance. I would not bother with the hubs.

JDub nailed it. The hubs aren't worth coating because the front and back surfaces will need to be carefully masked as well as the inside where the bearings go. Plus, unless you do black they will be coated in brake dust pretty quickly. Plus Plus, you don't see them behind your wheels anyway
