removing black paint from SC Fuchs

i have a set of original black spoke 15x7 and 15x8 Fuchs for my 79SC.

Is there a way/practice to remove the black paint on the petals to achieve a RSR finish without actually refinishing the wheels?

The short answer is, no. That's if you want them to look decent.

I used aircraft stripper on my SC Fuchs to remove the black. I then had to mask off the pedals and the rims to respray the black to make the wheels look like the early finish. The thing is that the metal under the paint will appear blotchy. Taking a Scotchbright pad to it will give you a blotchy RSR finish. There have been a couple of threads about painting the pedals with a specific brand and type of paint that is pretty close. You will have to be fairly good at masking to get all the curves looking good, and it will take tons of time and patience. Use Advanced Search to find the threads.

thanks!

I might just run them naked for now until i have them professionally restored.
Im just not a fan of the black spokes anymore. Maybe on a 930, but nothing else.

Been there, done that... and that... and also that.

Like you, I didn't care for the black centers. So first I tried simply stripping them. Paint came off fine, but Fuchs didn't polish the face of the petals on wheels that were to be painted black before anodizing, and the surface wasn't even all that nice, with visible tooling marks and blotchy finish.

So then I did the faux-anodized look with paint. (Fuchs faux-anodizing - what silver paint?.) That was better, but still not as good as I wanted.

So in the end, I broke down and had them refinished correctly. See page 5 of this thread - Picking up a Carrera this week

That finally made me happy.
