MFI leak?

Hi guys,

Just pulled the engine to fix a bunch of annoying oil leaks. Worst one seems to be the left camshaft seal.

Found this one at the back of the MFI pump. Any idea what it can be?

Ed

There should be a rubber cover over the opening above the gear.

As long as the rubber cover is not old and cracked. A new one will fit tight over the rotating plunger (rack) to hold in the oil.

The Bosch part number is: 1 410 508 008. Unfortunately the "Rack Cap" part is NLA except if you buy the complete MFI pump gasket kit.

While your in there you might want to change the clamp on the rubber hose for a Norma type that doesn't chew into the hose.

Odds are your camshaft seal is OK, that missing cover on the rack access will dump a lot of oil down the back of the engine. I had the same issue, now one of my bar stools is missing a protective foot.
