Are those screws supposed to be there?

Hi Pelicans,

I've been looking at images and can't seem to find these screws on other cars. I'm talking about the two screws with the brass "washer" on the window trim. Did someone try to fix something their way at some point?

Thanks!

No. They are held in by 7 clips.

Crap! Do you know what the strips are called? I guess I'll have to remove the screws, remove the strips, fill in the holes and install new strips.

Thanks,

Alex

I know a body shop nearby that would do that. Best replace those parts.

Alex - on the PCNA website you can find, with some hunting around, PDF versions of old parts catalogs. Download the one for your car (they come in US and Euro versions0. Get familiar with it - you will find the part under the body section. You can also often get an idea of how things fit and are held on.

With a new strip, assuming the places the clips attach to the door aren't buggered, you wouldn't need to fill in the holes - the strip will cover it.

It is not guaranteed that Porsche even carries these parts (will be easy to find out - maybe look at Pelican's catalog of body parts?). While these cars are timeless, they are 32 years old.

That is a ghetto fix. The strips can be replaced by removing the door panel and a little finagle. It IS easier to remove the door glass.

It is a cab right? These could be the location of the male tenax fasteners for the tonneau cover.

He's on to something.
Do you have any of these mounted elsewhere, like on the top of the dash?

Yes I do! And I have that option code under the hood. I always thought what was referred as the tonneau cover was the convertible top cover?

Go to a sail or upholstery shop for a quote. I hadn't thought about a cover when I saw those screws....good on the brain trust!

I have a full tonneau on my bucket list....
