c4 turbo?

Does anyone know if Porsche made a 4wd turbo in the 965 body style? I ask because I'm contemplating a turbo motor install into a c4.

Will c2 turbo wheels with factory offset bolt on correctly to the c4 front hubs?

Are there any other problems I may encounter?

No (factory) 4WD turbo on the 964 platform. All of the 1994 C4's were "turbo-look" (965 body style) cars though.

lews, it's been done before. Some shop out here built a 964 C4 with a sick turbo engine in it. I believe the car was called Mr. Frankenturbo, I have a little blurb about it in one of my "european car" magazine issues. The car is red with Fikse FM5s, I'll post details once I get home and take a look at the mag.

So, I would assume the c2 turbo wheels would fit?

ZAMIRZ - I remember that article. They removed the front wheel drive assembly in order to save weight - so it ended up as a rear wheel only drive car.

Lewis - what the heck are you doing now? I thought you had a '76 930 with C2T bodywork.

If you have the C2T fenders you can do the wheels. In the early 90's Andial shoved a 962 760+hp engine in a 91 C4-widebody. Then there was a guy in Excellence with an '85/993 body and an 800+hp engine and RWD ONLY! 315's (12.6" wide tire) in the back and they vaporized in 3rd gear from like 2500 rpm...
I would personally start with a 993TT. BUT I don't have $80K for one right now...check back later.

I have been thinking about what everyone has to say regarding the 930 to c2 swap. several have said it hasn't or can't be done and I'm starting to wonder myself. I've got over $8,000 in c2 turbo parts, wheels, interior, bumpers in the garage so I thought I would buy a c2 or c 4 and flare it and add turbo motor at later date. Thereby keeeping the 930 in stock form which would please some of the purists. I'll keep you up to date either way

Having done this before, I can shed some light...

The easiest way to do this is to purchase the suspension from a 965, a Turbo 3.6, 964 Wide body, or an American Roadster. The suspension will directly bolt onto a 964.

The rear trailing arms have a track that is about 2 1/2" wider on each side than a 964. As a result, you will need to use spacers, or get the 965 series control arms and rear axles (also longer).

In the front the suspension rack is also about 2 1/2" inches wider. The 965 Series rack will directly bolt into the 964 chassis without modification. The problem comes with the front axles. Since the 965 was only 2-wheel drive and the only wide body C4 based car was the C4 Turbo Look, the factory axles are hard to come by. You can have custom axles made for this application--call Smart Racing. The 964 wheel carriers can be used, simply remove the geared sensor in the wheel carrier and substitute for the C4 drive axles. The best choice for front wheel carriers are those from a Turbo 3.6 (They are different from a 965) since you will be able to directly bolt on Big Reds.

Another option that has been done before is to transplant the 6-speed transmission and 4-wheel drive system from a Twin Turbo. Surprisingly, this is not that difficult a transplant. 911 Porsche World Magazine featured a car about a year ago and outlined the conversion steps.

You will have several consideration if you plan to transplant a 930 (not a 965) engine into a 964...Heating, air conditioning, engine tin, electrical, power steering, exhaust, tail, oil system, cooling, clutch/flywheel/pp, throttle cable, etc.

No, the swap was installing OEM c2 turbo bumpers onto a 76 930. I got the rear installed but the front is being stubborn so I started looking for a c2 donor car to install my bumpers(I know I would need to install turbo fenders), my 18" c2 turbo wheels, and my c2 interior(all of which is sitting in a back bedroom at my house)on. I want a c2 turbo but being a firefighter I can't afford one! I do have the 930 though. If I can make the front bumper work I'm home free.

thanks everyone, and if I can make it work, I'll keep pictures and measurements of my work for the next poor sap that comes along.
