foldup targa top help

once the top is off how do you get it to fold so ou can have it with you? tried to push the hinged area in a bit but the rear is awful stiff, are there any secrets or things I should know or try? I always try not to force any thing, less i have to

I have never had that problem with mine, but it may be stuck. Take a look at where the hinges are and push them in. it folds to about 1/3 the size and fits perfectly in the back seat or Trunk.

it looks to me that it should fold at what would be the centerline of the car (front to rear or passenger to driver I should say,) and then push somewhat together side to side. correct?

If you have never folded a targa top before I would suggest that after removing the top from the car. Place the top with the vinyl side towards you and the back of the top resting on your shoes. This would have the front part of the top around waist height. Press down on the bar at waist height to release it from its locked position. Then reach down and pull on the bar near your shoes to release it from it's locked position. Now you can grab the sides and push in like an accordion the hinged bars will fold inward. To open the top back up pull on both sides like an accordion to expand the top. rest the back of the top on your shoes and pull up on the folded bar around waist height until it locks into place. (BE CAREFUL NOT TO PINCH YOU FINGERS IN THE MECHANISM WHILE DOING THIS STEP). Flip the top around so now the front of the top is resting on your shoes with the vinyl facing you. Pull up on the back bar to lock it into place and again watch your fingers. I can't stress enough about watching where your fingers are because it hurts like hell.

that's also the method i use, my old top needed a little "white lithium grease" on the hinges to move freely, after folding it about 10 times it became much easier. and yes.......watch your fingers
