Can you help identify what these holes in the floorpan might be?

Hi,

When I bought my 87 911 Cabriolet the PPI called out some strange holes/gromets that run down the center of the floorpan. I had it up on a lift for the first time and was able to take a quick photo.

Does anyone recognize what these might be?

Thanks,
Jeff

Do you have any unusual attach points up front or in the rear. Say like a oil cooler addon that was removed or some signs of a past electrical mod in the rear that needed wires route back to it?

Maybe some holes into the pan up front to pass something thru where the anchors stop?

Why I ask is I've seen many people just route wires or hard lines under a car instead of doing a proper routing thru the shift tunnel

Looks to me like those are anchors for clamps for something that was a afterthought running fore or aft.

Just a guess, has your AC been removed? Those might be the grommets for the clamps that ran the condenser lines?

There are not any signs of anything odd having been installed and nothing factory has been removed that I'm aware of. All AC lines are there and working.

I hadn't thought about the possibility of these being drain holes for rain water. It would seem odd that they would run all the way down the middle like this but maybe? Any other Cab owners have something similar?

Thanks for the ideas. It's just a curiosity for me.

Jeff

Any indications this car has been in an accident requiring it to go on a frame machine?
Could they be alignment points for straightening the chassis on a Celette?
Never having seen the device in use I wouldn't know for sure, but I thought I read a similar post indicating this as a possibility.

I had the car put through a complete PPI and once I took possession it spent some time at a Porsche specialty body shop getting a detailed exam and the boxed rockers swapped for standard 930 rockers. No indications of any kind that it has been in an accident. Clean title / Carfax as well although that can't always be trusted.

Did a quick search for body plugs and Celette.
May just be factory assembly holes that are plugged.
No idea really what they are.

I have done additional searching and when I do a Google image search for Porsche 911 plugs center floor pan I can see other 911 floor pans with the same series of plugs. Several sites seem to refer to these as drain plugs so I'm assuming they are there to drain out any water. It seems strange that they would be on some cars but not others.

Have the same on my '77. Previous owner made the holes for rust-proofing of the tunnel.

My 70 coupe has them since new from the factory. A friend's 70 coupe also has them. What they are for is anybody's guess. My friend is missing a few. If anybody finds a source for them or a part number let me know.

Cool

In my opinion, they are factory made drain holes that are directly under the shifter tunnel. The SC chassis is a galvanized body and that probably required a dip tank after the major body parts are welded together.

This is a pic of the underside of my 80SC just after primer and you can see the series of holes.

I believe the floor plugs are stock. Not sure what they are used for and why they are not on all 911's.

They can be purchased here:

Porsche dipped the TUBS at the factory, early cars in primer, later cars (70's) in electro galvanizing and then primer.

Those are drain holes. Should have plugs in them.
