Alternator Orientation
Does the orientation of the alternator matter? The orientation of the guide vanes do, but does the alternator? Can the alternator be installed in more than one position in relation to the guide vanes?
I think I had my alternator in "upside down". It has been out for a bit, and I can't remember which way it is supposed to go in.

of course electrically it doesn't matter but getting the wires to reach might be a bit of a pain. I would do it right.

Look at your hub extension for the cutout for the VR.
On Carreras, they are either on top or bottom, usually top. Bruce |

I thought it over, and rotated the alternator 180 in the housing. That seems more logical.

And don't forget that there is a locating "pin" on the bottom of the fan housing. If it is not aligned properly, the fan housing can crack when the securing band is tightened.

There should be a small "fairing" on the rear of the alt. It will only fit if the alt is correctly oriented.

You want the VR to be on the top, which it is here in the first picture. Allows you to replace the VR when it wears out without having to pull the wires off of the alternator to fully remove the alternator from the engine. Then be sure to put the cone with the air deflectors back on so they deflect air as they should, especially to the #1 cylinder.
