Turning an Engine That Has Been in Storage
Hi,
I want to fog an engine that has been in storage. To prevent hydolocking when rotating the engine, do the spark plugs have to be out, or can just the injectors be pulled (which are in storage after being cleaned)? Thanks for any replies. |

Pull the plugs, it's so much easier turn it over.

Sure, pulled injector will allow compressed air to come out.
+1 normally pulling the plugs make it much easier in normal situations.

Not sure I understand the intent of the comments about the injectors.
If you need to prevent hydrolock, the plugs need to come out. The injectors are located in the heads ahead of the intake valves. (The only exception is if you have a direct-injection motor, and I'm not aware of any Porsche air-cooled having that setup.) Having only the injectors out (and plugs still in) still allow the cylinders to build compression during rotation. Hope that helps. |

OP, nope fogging or smoking will not harm the engine. I use a cigar to smoke my car. ![]()

I have a very low mileage vram that's waiting for "the " project. It's hooked up to the engine stand via a 5 arm Baum p201. I rotate it up with the #1 bank pointed up. Loosen the three plugs and apply small amount of M1 into combustion camber. Rotate it 1/4 each way and leave it so as to coat the top of pistons / then #4 side...same with putting 3/4 qts in crank case - everything gets coated with M1....it's just me.

Interesting method, I may try that when I get my case, pistons and cylinder back from the machine shop.
