What flares are these and best wheels to fill?

I recently got a 1974 911s targa with metal flares welded on
some years ago

They extend about 2 inches past the 205/55/16 on 7 inch rims.

My question is there a name for these flares, ie what model were they trying
to copy?

Also, I would like to bigger wheels and tires to fill up more of the flares
without using spacers. Any suggestions on tire and wheel size (8 inch?) and backspace?

Thanks
Glenn in San Diego

Looks like standard Carrera flares to me. You could go 8 inch in the rear no problem. Tim

Put some 8x16 Fuchs on the rear and move the 7x16's to the front.

Thats ALL you need, aside from a proper corner balance and alignment.

This. Exactly what I do with my flared 74 in the summer.

Thanks so much

It appears the front ones are 7 inch as well with 205/55/16 tires

Forgive the newbie question, but if I go with the 8 inch Fuchs
in the rear, is there a standard backspace they come in?
Or do I need to specify a backspace?
Where do I get them that would match the ones I have up front?

What tire size?

As far as the paint, it was originally yellow, then red, maybe black
and finally the worst grey paint job you have ever seen.
They sprayed over the plastic rock guard before the rear arches.

Obviously once I get this thing running we are going down to metal.

As long as the 8" Fuchs you buy have a part number beginning with 911, you don't need to worry about the offset or backspace. There's a version that has a part number beginning with 951, you don't want those. Use a 225/50-16 tire.

The flareas emulate an SC or Carrera and are usually called 9" flares, the fronts would be 7" flares, by comparison a 930 would have 9" front and 11" rear flares

This shows the max f/r front and back space fror some wheels and sample tires

rule of thumb w/ stock SC/Carrera flares rear can fit 9.5ET19 w/ 255/40 tires as long as the tires are ~25" or less OD, stock max would have been 8ET10.6 as JR says any 911 part# 8 will be fine either 15 or 16" w/ 225/50 tires. Lots of guys use 9ET15 w/ 245/45 x16 these were oe on late 930s.

Custom wheels 17 or 18 up to 9.5ET19 will fit to, but tire choice becomes critical, I've used up to 275/40 x17 and friends up to 285/30 x18 but larger than 255/40 x17 will require lots of dditional work and restrictions on ride height.

The kicker here is that w/ weld on flares you may have more or less clearance than was available oe. It all depends on what the body guy did.

Where can I buy two 8 inch Fuchs with this part number that would match my fronts?

The tires on the car are bad so I don't want to buy tires for that I won't be using for long.

Thanks also for the fitment chart above

You can look for a used pair on the Pelican 911 parts classifieds forum, or buy a pair of refinished wheels from one of the many companies that specialize in refinishing Fuchs wheels.

The offset is fine but I wouldn't run a 17" wheel on that 911, nor would I pair it with the 16" fronts that you already have.

I'm not a fan of aftermarket, fake Fuchs, either.

Oops, wrong wheel
Euromeister Alloy Replica Wheels, Semi-Gloss Black w/ Machined Lip, 16x8, (10.6 offset)

If I went with aftermarket I would need to get all 4 so they would match

Having trouble finding 16x8 Fuchs that are readily available.

I need to get the car driveable.

I may just have to get cheap tires for the 7 inch rears as a temporary
solution until I can get the proper rear rims
