Saturday morning - Please give me feedback / help me test our new search engine...

It's not perfect. It still has a few bugs. But I believe it's a huge improvement over what we have currently on the site. Modeled after Amazon's category search with filtering, I took the best of what they had and combined it with auto parts. There are quite a few things that bug me about Amazon's search as well that I got rid of and/or improved upon.

Here is the link - it's best if you already have a car selected (make/year/model) prior to searching for something. Oh, the desktop version is the only one available at this time - it won't look good or work properly on mobile.

Pelican Parts - European Automotive Parts and Accessories - Porsche • BMW • Mercedes • Volkswagen • Audi • Saab • Volvo • MINI

I appreciate the feedback! Thanks!

-Wayne

Actually, I just found a bug. Please select a car from our home page first, and make sure it's showing in your "recent cars" menu before clicking the link above. You can select a car here: Porsche Parts and Accessories - OEM Porsche Parts - Performance Porsche Parts at PelicanParts.com

Based upon system recommendation for my 996, I did a search under "serpentine belt component kit" and the system came up with the same search results as "serpentine belt".

Your posted link is to a search result of "brake rotor"

If you enter a new search term from that page, the CGI in the URL states PEL_search_2014.cgi?
and not the pel_search_2016.cgi? that your initial brake rotor search used.

So, I am not sure we're even looking at what you want us to see.
Maybe you can you give a link to the search page you want us to use, and not a link to brake rotor results?

The ability to open an item in a new tab and window in itself is a huge improvement.

I would also replace the car selection popup with a simple pulldown menu.

Suggest an "Up To Top" button at bottom of pages Wayne. Site is clean and well organized---nice communications piece.

You can compare the two by doing a normal search and then changing "2014" to "2016" in the address bar and hitting return. I opened "targa seal" in two tabs side by side and the new search brought up more relevant results. I like the "how to" articles at the top also.

It does not allow me to select my vehicle. Even though I check "search recent cars" it still says "no vehicle selected". And when I search it gives me a listing for a wide range or cars.

Typed in 4 searches

Oil Cooler
Seat
Oil
Light

I got four sets of unique search results for my particular vehicle. The listed products were on par with what I was looking for, also listed in a logical order.

Can you simultaneously search for products for two different vehicles? Example, OIL for a 1975 911 and 2005 Cayenne? If for example there was a product recommended for both cars, one could buy a larger quantity, or in bulk.

In my opinion an improvement over previous search engine. This time around I did not encounter any bugs.

Regards

We had that in the past, and I don't think many people used it. But it is on tap to be put back into version 2 of this new search.

thx,

Wayne

Hmm, no one has formerly asked for that. That would be nice. It's now in the back of my head for one of those nights when I'm bored!

I went back and checked all of the screenshots (we record everything). You appear to have selected what we call our "rollup pages", which is the broad range of 1974-89. If you go and select a specific year, then it should give specific results. But since it doesn't know what specific car you have, then it gives general results?

At least that is what is appears from the screenshots. I also see 1986 911 Carrera as a recent vehicle. I'll do some more testing.

It will not allow me to "select your vehicle". When I try it comes back to "No vehicle selected"
My vehicle does appear below that window. If I check that and then enter my search, it reverts back to the "rollup pages". 1974-89.
Could it have anything to do with me using an IPad?

I had not noticed this thread previously, but I was pleasantly surprised Sunday night when I went to order a part, how quickly I got to just what I needed. It seems to be quicker, and more direct.
