Porsche Crest New to the 3.2 world… Any suggestions for a maintenance manual

I just became the owner of a 1986 Carrera 3.2 coupe. Any suggestions for a good resource book to have in the workshop? I already have Wayne's book… 101 projects for your Porsche 911.

Thanks

Welcome to the fray. Between Wayne's book and maybe the Bentley manual you are probably all set for most stuff. And this will have ton's of good information on maintenance and upgrades.

Further, it depends what you are after. There is the original Porsche workshop manual, Bruce Andersons Performance handbook to name a few useful publications.

Cheers,
Ingo

FYI there's a Bentley manual floating around on the interwebs I'm sure with a few minutes of searching you can find a link. . It's for the 3.2 cars 84 to 89. 277 megs that someone transferred the pages as images into a PDF so you can't search for words which is a pain but then again it's just like a real book experience would be.

Actually if you search for the exact line below you'll get lots of hits, just checked it.

Just buy the Bentley and leave pirated illegal PDF versions for thiefs.

Damn, that is a sweet looking '86. Looks like there has been some suspension work done on it, and that it looks well taken care of.

Regards,
David

The squeaky clean rear wheel well with the shiny oil lines and spring plates gives it away. It was never driven...... seriously, nice car

Add the PET

In addition, a .pdf document you'll want to download to your computer is the PET. You can get it directly from Porsche's own web-site by drilling around. Basically a nicely organized parts list for your particular year car. Since 86/87 is a big transition year, I suggest you download both the 86 and 87 pdf's as I have found what I need at times in each. My 87 was built in 86 and seems to have some 86 vs 87 in her at times. Misc. parts were used on many models from 944 to 911 to 928, etc.. And definitely the actual paper Bentley !

Porsche Crest

Awesome info on the parts diagrams and PDF… Really cool stuff.

The car was an awesome find it… 42,000 original miles. The Club Sport badging is just for show. It has 7 and 8 sixteen inch Fuchs. And also has a killer stainless exhaust two out in the rear center. It has H4 lights and comes with its original Fuchs, complete original exhaust and the original headlights, steering wheel and airbox. It even has the original rear valence .

I am looking for the PET download for a 1984 911 and when I web search for that year, I see both the link you posted above and this other referenced: http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/en/E_911_86_KATALOG.pdf They differ, but I cannot tell which is the correct for 1984 or if one is a later addendum to the other?

Sorry for any thread hijacking, but my online search (re: 1984) has not been successful. Is there any published technical bulletins of parts recalls or procedural changes to be aware of?

This n00b thanks you in advance.
