front end squeeks
My front end squeeks on low speed bumps. I've heard that there are several possible reasons for this. I'm looking for the one that is easiest to to address (it's winter and I don't want to do too much work under the car right now). I've heard there is a spot or two you can just spray with WD-40, etc. that will eliminate some squeeks but I don't know where that is. Can anyone help me with the easiest fixe(es)? Thx.!

Hey, my 83 sc front end squeaks when I turn the wheel left or right. It isnt noticeable at speed but when in the driveway or parking lot (even a low speed turn) it is annoying. The car is lowered about 1" in front and has a Weltmeister strut tower brace but all seems tight. What should I do ?

My rear end squeaks over small bumps. Since I have new shocks (about 1500 miles on them), I was told today to tighten the bolts holding them in. The rubber bushings may have seated a bit and need some tightening. Even old shocks can use a tightening once in awhile.

Front end squeaks over bumps usually means bushing problems. Either sway bar or control arm. If the bushings have really collapsed, it could be the torsion bar rubbing too. Sway bar bushings are relatively easy to deal with; control arm bushings require more effort. WD 40 (actually I used 3M silicone spray lubricant) worked for me for 5 minute or 5 miles, whichever came first. Do a search on bushings for a ton of info on rubber, plastic and bronze replacements. A PITA to fix in an unheated garage in the winter, but it will make a big difference when it's done.

I've got control arms and struts and calipers on the bench and am doing the bushing thing. Patience is needed if you don't have Chuck's lathe, but I'm expecting an improvement. I'm installing zerks. Fun but time consuming. And as it turns out, my local dealership is NOT the speediest source for parts.
![]() Squirt the bushings one at a time. Or squirt the sway bar bushings and drive. See if that does it. Then squirt the control arm bushings. See what is squeaking.

Did you have squeaking before? Have you cleaned all the grease off the front T-bars and checked for rubbing? Squeaking is often caused by rubbing of the T-bar inside the control arm. For the fix see squeaky! front end -Chris |
