AC delete weight savings in 911SC?

Curious what the actual weight saving is by removing the AC system from a 911 SC, and what components are typically removed? I assume one would still have heat, defrost and blown ambient air?

AC delete will not affect heat, defrost or fresh air. I removed all of mine other than the cabin control wires. Don't have an exact weight savings. But my guess is around 60 lbs but others will have an exact figure

Also removed center console since it was more dead weight

This is a great thread on weight loss:

438 lbs gone in 5 days - My Build Story

This shortcut will take you to the page look for post 99...where he summarizes the AC weight removal.

You can also remove rear seat belts and seat backs / rear parcel shelf.. rear speakers, all easily done & reversed, ac delete is a bit more involved but worth approx. 60LBS. & is noticeable...

The bulk of that weight is in the compressor, compressor bracket and the hoses. The condensers don't weigh that much, but the rear unit is so easy to remove that I'd do it. The receiver/dryer comes off with the hoses. If you remove the front condenser, condenser blower and evaporator in the smuggler's box, you will need to figure a way to seal or block the various body openings.

Even if you remove everything else, keep the blower in the smuggler box. It will blow air directly on you. The fresh air system in an air cooled 911 is pretty much useless.

The AC, fresh air and heater are three separate systems and can be run one at a time or in any combination and even all on at once.

The AC blower will blow ambient air temp but it will blow it right at you. I run my AC without the compressor running at an autocross. It helps a lot. My AC works great and I love it on the way home from the track.

Does anyone bother covering up the hole from the compressor bracket?

I would keep the AC. A 2006 Subaru Forester 2.5 XTE with a Mom and her kids will still pass you. Just having fun. But it's true. Guys want to make their 911 as light as possible so it is almost as fast as modern cars.

I removed mine when I had my 83SC because it didn't work for crap any way, and my car was black on black. I also did a heat backdate which cleaned up the engine bay nicely.
Im not much of an AC fan in cars unless it's ungodly hot. Usually open windows are enough to cool me down. I say do it.

We'll be showing our lightweight electric A/C at the LA Lit show on March 4th. Weight is 30lbs, about half the orignal A/C weight, plus it is all up front.

weight aside it really clears up the motor compartment a ton.

BUTT, will it hang icicles on yer nadz in Texass heat, Jonny; like my heavy, and heavily modified original system does?!?!

Plus, and to piggyback on what NastyNick said, the weight of the a/c system, and the non-cluttered engine compartment are only concerns for those who have 911s with weak, non-turbo powaaa plants and wimpy, non-Turbo brakes (not a concern of mine, in other words!!!), and it barely helps at all anyway in terms of outright acceleration and deceleration (aka- soccer moms will still whip dat' non-turbo, 911 azz)!

After pulling the AC crappola, I backdated the rear windows to pop-outs and get good airflow through the cabin. Bought the windows from a fellow board member and got the hardware from a bunch of sources.

i agree. its not a race car. I know when I had my 77s my brother removed all the AC before I got it. I wished he had not as I started to put it all back together but sold it before I ever did.

in the process of getting the 930 AC working. just need rear condenser. sure it looks better without it and even much easier to work on. and even though I don't drive it in the dead of summer I would like some AC if we need it on a trip.

these cars are going up in value, AC can add a lot.

I found when I removed my hose there was a lot of gravel stuck up there.
Probably a couple of pounds.

Reduce your intake from 4 cheeseburgers a week to just 1, delete all soda from your diet , and you will feel your car performance improve gradually, over time...
I can't emphasize enough the need to reduce the weight in your car!

Pulled 140 lbs out of mine which made a noticeable improvement in acceleration. But the rear end came up so high, had to re-lower it, align and corner balance. But who-hooo, cheap power!
