911 SC engine rebuilt

Hi!

New member from Portugal!

I read this Pelican forum many years ago but i Never had the idea of joining this community.

I'm a owner of a 1978 911 SC , since 17 years ago..i'm 40 years old now! (Many stories...)
I'm the 3 Owner of the car. It has classic homologation cause its full original.
Last 5 years, i become distracted by BMW E30.. And i've made a huge investment on my alpina C1 2.5. Took me 2 years To finish the nut and bolt restoration

Now, im bringing the Porsche To give it a full engine restoration and solve any issues. Give her some love again!
Im a little bit away now and im starting To study the PORSCHE 911 thing" again! Vídeos , this forum, books, haynes manual, etc...

I need advices here!

My mate...my favourite car! I dream about Porsche since i enter a 76 930 turbo (260hp) when i was 3 years old...since then i become a maniac! Despite being stopped for the last 1,5 years, since i have An issue in the engine.

I have other cars, Bmw E30 (3 including Alpina ) and i love to drive and feel the straight six and the rdw chassis... Normally i use E30 in roadtrips with friends!
I have also a 325i coupe (134.000km Like new) and a 80.000miles 325e (imported from USA when was new).

I had a MB 280 S 1969.. Amazing car! Super clean, silver grey with blue Leather interior and in mint condition! Not quite for me... I. Not a dictator... super big, thirsty...

Peugeot 205 GTI 1900.. Pocket rocket! Just sold recently but i prefer RDW..and six cilindres!
BMW e30 320i cabriolet also...sold to a friend of mine. (White with Bbs rs...gorgeous)

And personally my love is this 911 SC. Despite all the rest!

Just love classic cars and i'm a member of many Association and groups. Love also to race (historic regularity) and my dream is enter the MILLE MIGLIA or TARGA FLORIO. Someday... I will also looking forward To go To GOODWOOD and the ESSEN MOTORKLASSIC. Porsche museum in also on my PLANS!
...

Lets go straight to the point:

Now , after one tensioner (the non oil fed) colapse and still with the same original chains, ramps..(240.000km) i decided to go for a total rebuilt and maintain what is ok! Didn't broke anything (stop imeddiatly in low speed) and maintain my crankshaft with the rods attached.. Because i overall this engine 50.000 km ago. Everything is ok...valves, crankshaft, pistons, cilinders, rods, crankcase....I've just disassembly all the engine now. And im waiting and studying the best solutions and parts!
Injection is ok, despite i dont have any pop-OFF valve. (Thinking about)
I need To Service all and choose the best material.

I decided to buy new carrera oil fed tensioners and all hardware (sprockets.., intermediate shafts sprockets, ramps, all gaskets... Many more parts). Discs, suspension bushing...and more.

Ive order some parts here in Europe, from ROSE PASSION. Have You any alternative with good price? PELICAN IS TOP! Cause we have all and with the best description! But to import...unfortanelly they will tax me everything that comes from America!
European rules...

But i need some advices of which main bearings should i choose? GLYCO? Which are the best in market? This time , despite im not a mechanic, i want to be part of this heart cirurgic operation! Im the one that provides the parts.
Loctite 574 or not?

Many doubts will occour...im a novice here and i know there are a lot of expertise guys and companies! So i need your advice!

But i like to be super informed about this amazing car! Im also not rich...so i have limited budget. Here in Portugal i can pay only 10€ / hour (10$) .. Because of my friends.Cause hour labour is Nice and cheap. Problably one of the cheapest in europe! And we are good...we have great mechanics, factories, industrial automotive. Small business, wheels, painting, everything You need to restore any car!
Normally the price of labour/ hour is between 15 to 25€ / hour.

We talk (me and my mechanic) and the total cost that he can make for me to repair my engine is 800€/1000€ of labour only. Nice price?
Without parts and other stuff of course! He is a good mechanic and have all the tools but not so experienced and meticoulous with Porsche engines. And for this kind of job i need perfection all the way! Im the one theoric guy that is going To be beside him and taking care, cleaning, organising stuff... Translating the proccedures.

If someone could help in the issue of crankcase bearings...? Which are the best?

Thanks and best regards for all and, excuse my english. Not used to write so often...

Hi Norton,

Speak to Domingos at Nasacar in Portugal. They prepare 911's for historic rallying and race an SC.

Today is the day!

The engine is already in parts, disassembly.
Some new parts just arrived from France (Rose passion).
I was impressed about the professionalism, quick delivery and quality of parts vs prices...
I was studying a couple of months, the best online places To source the parts for the 911 SC.

Of course Pelican is a total different place, lots of choices between, good explanation.. I have To make some order someday just To see the shipping taxes from USA To Portugal.

Well, with some time o will make some questions and put some pics here.

Now, cleaning the stuff and organising things To start. Thought about soda blast some parts just To ... (Cause im here why not go To the fullest?!

Cheers
