How different is the 65-68 912 vs. 69 911 for a carpet install?

Hi,

What are the differences in the interior of a 68 912 vs. a 69 911? Is a SWB vs LWB situation? I'm looking at getting a carpet kit from eBay, but it's for a 912. Anyone know?

Bump, any Pelicans know for sure that can help out this gentlemen? Maybe pop into the 912 section and see if some of them might have some input?

If you do find that it wont work we have some interior carpet kits here as well: 1969 Porsche 911 E Coupe/Targa - Carpets & Floor Mats - Page 2.

Good luck!

Thanks Luccia. I would, of course, default there, but I'm seeking German squareweave for my 69, which wasn't something the factory offered, so it's a custom job.

Hello Michael, I also have a 69 with the squareweave in beige, just wondering if you had any luck locating a source. Thanks Ralph

Hello Michael,

look thru the info and verify that the 912 carpet kit includes the front and rear floor pieces. 911 included the floors carpet - 912 had rubber mats.

Short Wheel based cars had the heater lever position different than the long wheel based cars, verify if the rubber shift boot covers lever position.

SWB cars have the heat outlets in the longitudinals. The carpet kits may be cut for that, not sure. Also I think the seat mounts attach to the longitudinals and tunnel differently which also may be an issue.

Funny this thread just popped up- I installed an RS kit in my 68 912 yesterday and it was NOT an easy task. I ended up having to use some original pieces because the coverage of some of the new pieces wasn't enough….the pieces that cover the rear sides over the wheel wells were a MF'r and needed some serious trimming…stretching…etc..and they still don't fit very well. The carpet is in but it ain't as pretty as it shoud be.
I put an RS kit in my 83 SC and it fit waaaayyyyy better than this did so I'm gonna say there IS a difference. If I were doing a resto I'd buy carpet in bulk and cut my own pieces and have the edges trimmed. I went that route on a speedster replica I had and it looked factory when it was done.
For what you pay for some of these kits I think it'd be a push cost wise to do your own.

Micheal,
I'm making my rubber floor mats from rubber stair runner that can be bought at hardware stores.

When asked about these mats in Porsche racing cars, Ferry said they made them the same way. Sent someone to the hardware store.

Yes, a couple places will do it. It ranges from around $900-$1200 for the set.

I have an RS carpet kit in my car now, so it would not be that hard to create my own set. The question I would have is how to get the edges with the binding.

What Matt means is find a place that sells carpet. Very often they make custom length runners for stairs in homes or custom size rugs for homes, they'll have a machine that binds the edges.
You can also find a car interior place, they'll have the vinyl edging to stitch on of you're looking for that style edge.
