The Official Stupid Question Thread

Not being a complete gear head I have what many of you will consider a stupid questions. But they are questions that I don't know the answer to. They can range from the name of a part to how do you do something. College's now have safe spaces where you can go in comfort and eat fruit loops, wear an army helmet and a tutu while doing the chicken dance with out fear. Well maybe not wear the army helmet that may be considered hostile toward another seeking refuge. Any we will consider this our official ask a stupid question safe space.

Here are my first three official stupid questions.

1. Do these little plastic thingies that go over the metal tabs to protect wires have a name? I need some and have no idea what to call it other than a wire protector.

2. What is this and where does it go?

3. I have two fuse covers with different part numbers 911.612.161.00 and 911.612.161.06. Do either match up to a 74 S?

There will be more where these came from.

I didn't know what #2 was but Googled the part number and came up with: Porsche 911 Factory Original Intermediate Shaft Cover Magnesium 901.105.141.03 | eBay

#3 Google results show .06 as being for 74-85 and .00 for earlier Turbos and 74-77. I'm sure someone with first hand knowledge will respond.

Using Google is cheating

# 3, correct part numbers for the 1974 fuse cover are:
911-612-161-00, or superseded to -01

I've heard you can use wire heat shrink tubing to replace those.

Those are the wrong fuse box covers, though they will fit.

#2 is a Intermediate Shaft Plate

Turbo valve covers have ribs running lengthwise and widthwise, non turbo has ribs running widthwise only.

If I drive my Targa at the speed of light, and then I turn on the headlights, does anything happen?

Oh...so many to chose from.

What are these controls for the heat and cooling?

What does Druck mean?

Where is West Germany? It says my car was made there...

Why is there so much oil!?!

Why does it seem like you have to have small hand to work on everything?

What do I do if I don't have a 13mm wrench or socket?

No question is a stupid question...even though when I uses the attend a corporate meeting..and someone ask a basic question.. then I think that they are in the wrong meeting/ position.

Back to your question, if you have #2 laying around, best is to seek advice from an actual Porsche shop.
If you get a chance to hang around their shop, you will learn a lot.

Safe space... just lock yourself in your home 365 ....Just my .02

What do you suppose they do with those little pieces of metal they punch out when they make a flute?

If a monkey bit you, what kind of drugs would they make ya take?

If you carpeted Florida, how long would it take to vacuum?

How much does this building weigh?

If dogs sweat through their mouths, why do you suppose they have arm pits?

If the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, I wonder what a door knob would feel like?

While we're at it...
On my sc (and maybe all 911's) the curtesie light in the frunk is on the passenger's side yet the driver's side has the brake fluid reservoir, the fuse box and the battery. What gives?
