Tool Kits Overview 74 and up
 

Does anyone know of a good reference (Other than PET) that shows the contents of the tool kits fro 1974 and up? It would be nice to know what the contents are, but maybe more important what changes may have happened from year-to-year. Just looking at the bags there are differences in materials, colors, and tags that were stapled on them. If not this could be the start of a place to share that information and put together a list for everyone to use as they try to complete kits.

The first primer on the early 911 kits was in the Brett Johnson Restorers guide to authenticity, 1965-73.

Maybe this one for 74-89 also has that same type of info?

While I'm a toolkit guy, and my eyes are drawn to any thread that mentions toolkits, I haven't seen anything that lays out the info for the later kits as you are looking for.

Being a tool kit guy would you have any interest on collaborating on developing a list like this? Obviously would like to any input from others here with the knowledge

Unfortunately my personal info/knowledge/inventory of the 74+ kits is non-existent and I don't have a need for them as my world is strictly pre 74. Sorry!

I'm subcribing to this one, to learn more of my tool kit. I know my screw driver handle is wrong it is the red one. but the rest appear correct.

In the 72porscheman picture the tow hook would be incorrect for my 79SC, it would be the hook type.

That's a ROW kit so yes yours would have the hook type.

Subscribing as well. I would like to find a tool kit for my 79SC, but there seem to be so many inconsistencies between model years (due to changes by Porsche) that I have zero confidence that I can recognize what is correct and what isn't.

Just take a look at buy and sell. Right now there are several SC tool kits and their contents vary. Some have tow hooks, some not. One has a black screwdriver handle, the others yellow. Some have two short lug wrenches, the others a long one.

I'm not suggesting that any are being intentionally misrepresented, I think it just shows how much confusion is out there. I'm guessing there were year-to-year changes, and there was no single took kit for all SCs.

Correction - I do have a yellow handled screw driver, I might have mistaken it for an old MB tool kit I have.

Here are a couple of pictures of mine. The Pundz fuse pack is from the MB kit.

It would be good to know what is correct and what is not.

Would you do us a favor and take a picture of the toos out of the pouch? I'm really curious as to what that spring thing barely sticking out is.

That would be either the tow hook (longer piece) or the spark plug socket (the shorter piece). Here are the tools out of the pouch. I can not vouch for the absolute correctness as I have only had the SC for 13 of it's 38 years. I also have a tag that was clipped on the toe hook and a reflective triangle on a stand from SWF.

The pictures make the tools look worse than they really are.

Thanks Terry. That was quick! I guess my kids still keep me busier on sundays than most people. It takes hours between logins! BTW, how does that spark plug tool work? What's the spring for? Is it to allow it to swivel?

Got the grand daughter for the weekend and this gives me a break. The spring I believe helps allowing it to swivel and keep it somewhat aligned in the recess to remove the spark plugs.

I don't carry the tool kit in the car, I have an old Mercedes kit that I do carry. I have a spare toe hook but need to get an additional alternator pulley wrench to add to it.

Sometime ago I got involved in a tool pouch color tag thread but didn't have a solid determination of pouch color and tag color corolation. Maybe someone (sharper than me) can make a spread sheet starting with pouch color, material pattern, color tag, tool stampings, screw drivers etc............

Sometimes hard to determines due to not too many original owners out there but still a good guide of what should be correct. This would help for current owners having a correct kit and sellers/buyers properly identifying what is for sale or purchasing.

Since I've opened this can of worms here is what I have for a 1984 Carrera that I believe to be 100% complete. I think this could be a good starting point for 84-89 with the exception of bag color and the tag stapled to the bag??

Targa and Cabriolet would also have two keys to release the top (I think)
