Just trying to find the source of my starting problem. I need to know what kind of spray or something like that to use on the electrical connections.

Electrical contact cleaner (spray) from Radio Shack or electronic parts store.
Also, physical contact with a coarse rubber eraser. Do not use anything aggressive as this will remove any protective plating (if any) over the base material. You can be more aggressive with distributor contact points (file) and even more with spark plug electrodes. Sherwood Lee http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars |

Thanks Sherwood! I would have rubbed everything off with sandpaper.

Ink erasers work very well. I sometimes get more aggressive and when you use abrasives, just make sure it is a brown-colored abrasive, rather than the dark gray stuff. the dark grey stuff is metallic, whereas the brown stuff is not.
For cleaning, save your money and use your can of denatured alcohol, which you should have anyway. Finally, a thin, thin coat of silicon grease, such as Dow Corning 111 or 112 will avoid future corrosion. ------------------ '83 SC |

If any coating is accidentally scrapped off you can retin it with solder. We are an oem of larger boats and construct our own wiring harnesses for vessels in a marine environment. All of the wire is stranded and pre-tinned to prevent corrosion. Anything that is not precoated from our vendors is dipped in solder to provide similar protection.
When wiring a car I always use the pretinned stranded wire and similarly coated connectors which also have glue. After mechaniclly making the connection a heat gun is used to melt the glue forming an impervious seal. The primary supplier of this wire and connectors is Anchor, West Marine is a retail vendor. ------------------ Bill Verburg My Home Page ![]() ![]() |
