Shout Out to DAS Roll Bars

After finishing my interior projects (with possible exception of replacing some glass with Lexan) I was left with having to make a decision about a roll bar. I had already installed some nice Sparco fixed back seats I found on CL, but had still been using the stock three-point seat belts.

I seriously contempleted a Brey Krause harness bar so that I could have racey-looking harnesses without adding the weight of a roll bar, because my overarching goal with this project is to reduce weight without making it look exclusively like a track car. In other words, it's an outlaw. But dammit, it seemed that nearly every awesome air cooled 911 I admired had a roll bar. Thanks a lot Magnus, Singer, et. al.

I spoke briefly to Dave at TRE, but he advised he wasn't going to be making any roll bars for several months. I didn't want to wait that long (Sorry, Dave), so I decided to bite the bullet and order the more expensive and heavier DAS roll bar primarly because as a DIYer I liked the idea of being able to bolt it right in.

I ordered online and got several emails from Colin at DAS acknowledging the receipt of my order and the shipping tracking number. To my pleasant surprise, it was scheduled to be delivered just TWO days after I placed my order, despite the fact that I live nearly 1,000 miles away. And show up two days later it did.

The fit was perfect, although I did notch the front supports to clear my sliders. I also added some Schroth 4-point Rallye Cross harnesses. So, all-in-all, I'm a very satisfied DAS customer, although now I have to figure out where to lose 45 pounds to offset the roll bar weight. Looks like I'll be ordering some Lexan quarter windows and rear window after all.......lol.

Did you have to drill new holes for the front mounts? My 1972 doesn’t seem to have bolt holes there??

Looks like the earliest bolt-in DAS sells is '74 - maybe give them a call?
