Odd Find in So Ill

Was driving through town and saw this rather sad guy in a used car parking lot. I don't really know much outside my longhood MY. 32K miles? I left my name and number to get more info. At first glace, I'm thinking parts car...

What year?

I saw that about a month ago on North 51. It was a bit of a shock seeing that around here. We are pretty rare around So. Ill. I was busy taking someone to an appointment, so didn't stop. Even just driving by it looked a little too rough for me to deal with. I haven't been back that way since. Thanks for posting pics, as I was curious as to what was there.

Mid to late 70s S or early SC with chrome trim would be a good guess. I can't id the motor, but the 11 blade fan says 3.0 more than 2.7. There is a VIN plate on the driver's A pillar. Get a picture of that and post it here to definitively id the car.

Upon further review, looks like there is some damage to the roof line near the passenger A pillar. Depending on how serious it is, that might be a deal killer for all but the most dedicated 911 restorers.

Eng compartment generally says '69 2.0 T to me, except the fan housing looks earlier. But that doesn't match the interior/exterior. Wrong motor in late model car? Update to older car? Hard to tell without more inspection and a VIN.

Yup, that's the one. I'm hoping I get a call. It's pretty rough and with a broken window, the place may just want to get that eyesore off the lot. The glass was still inside the car, behind that temp window/trash bag they lovingly taped in place.

I gotta run back by there today and will take a look for the VIN plate and ask about it again.

There are a bunch of spots like rear pillar rust where the paint has failed but I didn't see a single one that had rusted through, even next to the windshield or headlights. The rockers had those panels so I couldn't get a good look.

Looks like a mid-year 76 or 77 with a 2.0L engine

For practice, I tried to decode the numbers using google search hits, not Wayne's book which are sitting at home:
Maybe someone smarter than me can decipher the VIN and engine code.

Here are some more pics. Beware, some are extremely disturbing.

Talking to the lot owner, it appears they are working on getting the title so it's not really for sale yet. The engine has seized. Apparently, the previous owners were running NOS. Sales guy says there was a NOS tank in the frunk. Damage to the front suspension was from the tow truck crew that deposited the car in the lot. It's not surprising since the battery tray was Swiss cheese. The owner also told me that the car may be worth upwards of $80k. The sales guy said they received an offer of $10k already. I told him if they can get $10k, take it and leave town.

Yep a '74.
80K?!?! For a mid-year Frankenstein with a locked 2.0 engine, abundant rust issues and destroyed front suspension? "Sure"........ (quickly steps away without making any more direct eye contact)
: )

No...engine toast, rust, missing parts!
For the money needed to fix this up...you could buy a really nice one ready to drive now.

Everything looks pretty good on the drivers side, it's the passenger side that needs all the work....Somebody had a heavy clutch foot too, probably driven hard.
