Has anyone that has RSR style rear lights converted to LEDs?

See attached....I'd like to get a little more visible light from LEDs as opposed to the anemic incandescent bulbs that are in this set up.....

LED bullets or somehow convert to more modern socket style bulbs....

Going to try an LED replacement Festoon bulb.

After five parts stores answered my call with "WTF is a Festoon bulb?" and the inevitable "What year, model and whatever" stock question....like the IT dick-in-charge "have you rebooted?"

Autozone had some at 9.99 each. Pricey but they had a tester to make sure they worked. Rated at 3 watts......nice and bright. A BIG improvement.

I'm surprised to see festoons in tail lights. How do they handle lighting up with the brakes?

Well, never been behind the car when they come on....I use a cane to press down the pedal after wedging it in the seat back to test after I blew the fuse and then replaced the bulbs. The guys I pass don't seem to complain. %^)

This doohickey was in the package. Ten button batteries providing power with a momentary switch.

Somebody with too much time on their hands...

I used LEDs on my car... truck type marker lights with a rubber grommet to secure the light

I don't remember exactly where i got them, but there are many vendors... They work muy bueno

something like these...

From here:

SuperbrightLEDS

The grommet had to be trimmed with a razor knife to fit.. took all of a few minutes to install them

Grommet

The button contraption probably cost more to manufacture than the LED festoon.

Its to cold for me to go to the garage and check the wiring, but the turn signals and emergency flashers work, but they blink really fast since i haven't bothered to put a resistor across the the connector.

I remember the brake light having three connector, so the red light has a function for running lights... Ill try to see if I can identify the lights i got, they are similar to the ones I linked, but not those exact lights...

No reverse lights... my car is track only so I'm only concerned with the brakes, but while I was in there I connected the amber lights and they work when I hit the turn signal....

Yea I had those same 911r tail lights in one of my 911s and I ordered festoon LED bulbs for them on Amazon. They were about 10x as bright, it was awesome.

Keith Seume posted this on ddk:

Although not 'accurate' and guaranteed to upset purists ( ), I changed my Hella unit for LED lights sold as am upgrade for Land Rover Defenders. Same diameter but the light output is immeasurably brighter than the worthless festoon-type bulbs used in the Hellas, even with a festoon-style LED bulb upgrade.

My plan is/was to use a Dremel to cut off the lens from each LED light unit and then glue in place a suitably modified Hella lens, but I've never got round to it.

All I'm saying is that, in regular use, the stock Hella lights are very hard to see compared to modern lighting on other cars on the road.

I was able to get under my car today and check the wiring, the brake light has three conductors, so functions as a brake light and a running light.

The brand is American Superlite model SL2500 I dont see the exact light I got on the website.. but it appears that website hasn't had any updates in many years..

With the LEDs I used I have brake, running, turn, and emergency lights
