Any magic tricks to geting an old mirror puck off windshield w/out cracking the glass
We used a old school roof mounted rear view mirror in our new build and cannot get the old mounting puck thingy off the glass. We tried heat and chemicals and no go. Anybody have a good solution? Windshield is now back in car so I'm sure its not going to be easy. Thanks.

Protect the dash, take a needle with thread on it. Stick the needle between the puck and the windshield. Allow acetone to run down the thread and needle so it can get between the puck and the windshield, take your time. Probably glued on with cyanoacrylate(super glue)

A single smart smack with a hammer and a chisel = cracked windscreen. :-( I like the needle idea, just 10 years too late

A small micro torch flame on the metal part will soften the glue while a pair of pliers rotates the clip as the glue softens.

Don't know how Porsche attached the mirror base, but most manufacturers used a two part system that cured chemically. Those adhesives will not likely be released by solvents or heat. Some U.S. manufacturers used to use a vinyl based adhesive that could be softened by heat and carefully peeled off, but I don't believe Porsche used such a system. My only experience was with a '69 when the based simply fell off and I had to re-glue it. However, I don't know if the base or windshield was original to the car. It could have very well been a replacement windshield that a shop or PO glued the base onto. Good luck.

Found this on Youtube, looks simple, but may be risky! Good luck!

Used a razor blade on mine. I was surprised how easily it came off.
