I think it has been done both ways Craig. I removed mine and have yet to order the 930 trim to replace it. It fits nice all the way around, but I did have to remove a little excess metal on the back of my right light housing. For some reason it hung down just enough to hit the fiberglass.

Nearing the end of my labor

Added the badge, went with ducktail. Finally waxed the car, and now it looks like this, after a lot of work--basically total DIY paintjob of the entire car going back and forth and redoing everything that didn't come out well enough. It's hardly perfect, and I'm pretty much happy with it.

More pics at my site below.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but if any of you that missed out on the group buy are still interested in a Ruf front bumper, I have posted one for sale in the parts section.

CJ 03-05-2004 12:50 PM

All you guys that bought the Ruf conversions, It's March 5th lets see your progress.

mjmoran 03-31-2004 04:57 PM

I have to agree Chris. I was just considering doing the same this next year for a nice winter project. Would like to see everyones installs/troubles/comments...etc... So come om guys. This was a great thread last year. Lets finish it up in style!

lally911 03-31-2004 05:11 PM

I didn't get mine through the group buy but finished putting it on this weekend. Here is a pic. No major troubles putting it on, just took my time, made it fit as good as possible, had it painted, added grill and lower spoiler lip and bolted it on.

Here is mine! Craig

89turbocabmike 03-31-2004 07:57 PM

Nice Craig! I have to say that is one of the best looking ruf updates I've seen and one of the few times the late model wheels have looked right on an early car:)

mjmoran 03-31-2004 09:07 PM

It sure is amazing how much cleaner the lines look now on your cars. Not to mention you can get rid of all that rubbler cleaner for the bellows and trim! How is the fit and finish of the front turn signals? I cant quite see from the pictures. Also, are you using any black beading to trim the bumper to fender?

MotoSook 03-31-2004 09:17 PM

Nice guys!

Craig that is so sweet loooking....

....I'm going to get a Carrera (argh...no no!) and do the Ruf bumpers one day...l still very much love the look. Craig has a great example.

Craig Stevens 04-01-2004 01:29 AM

Thanks, I did use the rubber welting. The fit & finish from BW was pretty good. The turn signal openings were ok, I had to do a little grinding on the fog light openings. When I get a chance, I will post a picture with my track wheels & trim, it's a different look. Thanks again, Craig

Craig Stevens 04-01-2004 01:37 AM

This is the other look for the track. I like both looks.
Craig

tomt 04-01-2004 09:09 AM

Craig -- what did you use for the lip?

Craig Stevens 04-01-2004 10:58 AM

Tomt, I used conveyor belt material that I found at a Goodyeay rubber dealer

GeorgeM 04-01-2004 12:21 PM

Craig, how about the Carrera stripes... are they vinyl or magnetic?

CJ 04-01-2004 12:40 PM

Great new look guys, I will do this conversion as well. Thanks and keep the pics coming!

ipapilot 04-01-2004 01:02 PM

Hey Craig, isn't it sweet, everyone loves Iris!

Craig Stevens 04-01-2004 02:29 PM

Hi Brian, Everyone loves Iris, but my wife, she Calls the car Iris the Slut. I have to say, I probably spent to much on her, Iris that is.
George, the Carrera decals are vinyl. I got them from Mike Zois here on line. Mike, I'm sorry if I spelled your last name wrong. Craig

Beautiful guys...BEAUTIFUL!

stomachmonkey 04-02-2004 06:06 AM

Have been going back and forth between a RUF conversion or Turbo look.

Had decided on the Turbo look. Yeah definitely turbo look. That's it, gonna bite the bullet and do it.

Read this thread and I'm back on the fence big time.

You guys suck. ;)

Some really sweet cars, good job guys.

Scott

KTL 04-02-2004 07:59 AM

Wow!

Tim's and Craig's cars look great.

I gotta get some trim rings for my H4's too. The semi-monochromatic look that results from getting rid of all the black rubber stuff is a noticeable improvement, in my opinion!

Nice job everybody. SmileWavy

tomt 04-02-2004 09:14 AM

Another RUF job...

Here's mine... now 155 pounds lighter after the seats, AC detete, and the RUF stuff. That, along with the euro premuf, dansk 2 out, and SteveW chip makes for a peppy ride!

Ruf CTR Tank

I picked this up last year. It was verfied by Ruf as being one of theirs.

Just reporting on my progress on my CTR replica. The rear bumper has been modified to have rear reflectors and bumper vents. The rear porsche reflector has been removed and now has two rear fog lights. The mirrors have been shaved and the RUF CTR mirrors have been modified to fit a cab. It's about a week away from color (Don't ask, it's a secret!:)

Thanks. It's been metal etched before priming and finally, Wurth coated (Schutz) as it came from Ruf. I still have the e-mail from Ruf stating it was "one of theirs". It looks better than new.
No ideas on what to do with it but I am actively seeking an early rally tank 110 liter for a SWB car (1967).

Tom

MotoSook 09-07-2004 02:59 AM

Nice work Pie!

Tom, that Ruf tanl..did they just remove the spare tire section and then added new sheet metal?

RickKlem 09-07-2004 04:27 AM

Pictures of my updates

Here is some pictures of my front and rear bumper update. This started as a 911S, I had to cut, and weld in SC rear flares. I dropped the 2.7 for a built 3.0 with SSI and Dansek sport muffler. Its using a MSD al6 for the ignition. Lots of other updates ,too long to list.

I still need to do a complete paint job.

No regrets
Rick

MotoSook 09-07-2004 04:48 AM

Nice Rick...you know that 27230 was an aborted birth of GruppeB. Luckily Sir John planted the right seed...now go register! :D

Looks very good. Nice choice of rocker cover.

Tom, if you are ever interested in selling let me know.
Thanks, Pie

What are all you guys using for heat shield on rear bumper? I am having heat problems, bumper gets very hot.

piedogger 09-07-2004 12:44 PM

I am not using anything. It gets warm but not too hot to touch.

Scooter 09-07-2004 01:16 PM

I know one well-known Pelican had a heat shield made with the cutouts to match the bumper vents. I would think the shield would be a great precautionary device.

Par911 09-07-2004 01:49 PM

Your 77 911s looks beautiful Rick ;) . What kind of rocker panels are those?

RickKlem 09-07-2004 02:05 PM

Thanks Pari

They are "SKN" from Better Bodies.

Souk, didn't I see that you got a "fat bastard" just recently? I knew you would come back to the dark side! One more RUF conversion coming up. Just give in you know you want to!:D

MotoSook 09-09-2004 12:46 AM

Holy crap Pie! (LOL...I just said crap pie ) I should have figured that statement would come back and bit me. I would like to convert the Fat Bastard to the CTR look, but it'll have to wait until I finish the original Bastard....

piedogger 09-09-2004 12:56 AM

I figure more than half the RUF conversions on this board have you to blame....The least you can do is join the club!

Just tell the wife that being this is your daily driver that lighter, more aerodynamic bumpers will save gas.
