Please help me figure out the climate ventilation system

so ive tried every combination of the levers and i cant seem to find the right position for what i want.....if it exist

all i want is to get outside air in thru the dash vents facing me to provide some cool air while driving....without running the AC

in my old mercedes we have the Economy button which provides that...
is this possible in the porsche or do i have to turn the AC knobs on to get such effect

also, whats with the defrost, i have two levers on the ground and one on dash...i dont get how im supposed to use them

thanks

No fresh air will come out of the dash vents. Take a look at this photo in post 11:

Mysterious climate controls....

also, there is a ton of information on this website...consider using the search function as it works pretty good.

Yes, I was about to post the same link.

Study the picture of the dash controls at the bottom left of the photo. Those levers will control the outside air volume, distribution, and fan speed of the fresh air blower with no connection to the AC.

You could try turning on the AC fan, and turning the AC temp to the highest temp, or disconnect the AC compressor.

I believe the only way to get fresh air out of the dash vents is to have a car that was built with a non-AC ventilation system (one slider on the upper row instead of two)

If you (vdub) use search, use the PP advanced search function.

Alternatively use google advanced.............

Here's a search in the 911 tech forum domain on "Fresh air vents" using google advanced. Also use Google Advanced any time you are searching on numbers. PP's search engine does not handle numbers.

https://www.google.ca/search?as_q=fresh+air+vents&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&lr=&cr=&as_qdr=all&as_sitesearch=http%3A%2F%2Fforums.pelicanparts.com %2Fporsche-911-technical-forum%2F&as_occt=any&safe=images&as_filetype=&as_rights=

Where is the non-A/C image for those of us less fortunate (or more weight conscious)?

Believe image is from a later 911, 3.2, slightly more fisticated than older 911's.

Fresh air is up or down. Defrost or foot. Mix it with heated air.

Three systems. Fresh air/AC/Heat.

If you accidentally leave your front trunk open (caught on the safety latch) you will find that tons of fresh air makes it by the vents and every other opening in the dash.

On a serious note I have separated my blower motor and A/C compressor switches so I can run the blower without A/C although I will say I rarely do this.

I swear the climate control system in my 930 is pure German engineered garbage. Just brutal. All my Japanese cars of the same vintage were so nice and logical.

To get any air out of the center vents, the AC system has to run. You can unplug the clutch if your don't want the compressor to run, like on a track day or autocross. The air blowing out will not be "fresh" air. The AC system on a 911 is 100% recirculated air. The air is drawn from the passenger side foot-board area. If you want some fresh air at all, turn the fresh air blower on, and have it blow out the heater vents. That will put some fresh air in the foot-well area and get sucked into the AC system.

I am one of the people that just never run with the windows down. Either the AC is on, or the heater is on. I use the fresh air system only on the track. And I do roll the windows down then since that is part of the rules.
