Anyone have a photo of Electromotive Coils with MAP Vacuum Lines for PMO?

I'm nearing completion on my PMO project but I am slightly stumped on how I will mount the Vacuum manifold (the brass piece that has vacuum lines to each throttle - sitting on engine shroud in last photo).

I have the center mount platform from Clewitt Engineering but it did not come with any directions for mounting with the vacuum block. The only threads I have found have a user modification but these don't have any close up photos.

I will probably make something similar to what Trog did but it would make my life easier if I could copy what someone already invented.

Thanks.

Here's a snapshot of my progress:

Vern - are you running Electromotive EFI? If so, what you have is a sort of vacuum accumulator. One hose goes to it from each vacuum port on the manifolds, and the 7th port goes to your MAP sensor, which is connected to the ECU.

Sorry - I misunderstood the question - you know all that, but wondered how to mount it.

Mine I just leave floating - the hoses pretty much hold it up, and I run a bit of wire upward to a fuel hose which runs up to a regulator mounted on the fan housing. You probably want something less crude.

But you have lots of opportunities, what with those standoffs for your coil pack handy. And those stock throttle bellcrank assembly studs just begging to get used, like for the MAP sensor?

Hi Vern,

The manifold is typically mounted on top of the breather with the platform for the coils mounted on top of that (from what I have seen anyway).

I don't have those coils but this is how my manifold is mounted.

Cheers,

Harry.

That's my dilemma exactly....Both the vacuum manifold and the coil platform mount to the breather studs. I may have to cut a piece of aluminum and mount under the coil platform to hold the vacuum manifold. I wish Clewett had engineered this into the product.

Vern,

I mounted the MAP sensor on top of the manifold. One of the holes align, so the bolt go through the sensor, manifold and a "bridge" plate that is tie to the DFU base plate. The other bolt (passenger side) is just a "fake" that rest on the manifold.

I'll look for the blow by blow photos.

This plate was originally hold the DFUs to the fire wall. I change my mind so I use it for a platform for the manifold (looking from the passenger side). So Clewett kind of engineer that...

With the DFUs plate mounted.

With the manifold mounted using both bolts supplied.

Then I decided to mount the sensor on top. I lined up the ho;es on the left side and I use a threaded rod and two nuts to secure it. As the right side holes did not line up, I just cut the rod and put a acorn nut to match the other side (next photo).

DFUs installed on top.

JM where did you get those filter caps for the venturis? Very cool and oh so retro looking. Email me. Rauscher@ wistar.org. Thanks. Frank

JJ,

Thanks for the great photos! That's exactly what I want to configure - I'm either going to make my own or I will get ahold of Richard at Clewett.

From the "bend back" downward piece on the first photo, is where I bold a channel piece to hold my fuel pressure regulator.

That's a beautiful setup. Currently planning my EFI layout and I was wondering where your FPR gets its vacuum reading from? I picked up a vacuum manifold with 6 inputs and 2 outputs on the ends - I was going to put 1 output to the MAP sensor and the other to the FPR. Thanks.

Thanks, I'm on my 3rd variation: Race Top to replace to individual filter which I think is the best looking one.

The vacuum for the Fuel Pressure Regulator is T off the line for the Brake Booster from #2 throttle.

Fitting

Hello, know its an old post, wondering where you found the tee fitting for the brake and FPR. Trying to find the same one for 1/2 in npt.
Anyone using vacuum canisters with the pmo setup? Thanks

That looks to be a common brass 1/8NPT T, which should be available at any hardware store and probably at the big chain stores like HD. If not, easy to get by Internet. 1/8"NPT hose barb fittings are also easy to find.
I suppose 1/2" is also available? If not, just use an iron plumbing Tee?
Why so large, though - the 1/8th inch stuff is fine.

You can certainly draw vacuum, so to speak, from the manifolds under PMOs. I used a vacuum controlled FPR with carbs (low vacuum, higher FP, though not by a whole lot, just higher than you'd want at idle)and drilled the big, unused boss at the end of one of the manifolds (they are cast symmetrically, then finished as right and left sides for hardware mounting)to get vacuum. However, I have no idea if that is adequate for power brakes (who wants those?). However, it is easy to rig up about whatever size vacuum canister you want with plastic pipe and screw or glue on end caps. End caps have enough meat to drill and tap for 1/8" pipe fittings. If you use thick enough pipe, you can do the same directly into it radially. If you need more vacuum than just one intake can provide, and you don't have manifolds with provision for more than one, you may have to be creative in drilling and tapping into the thinner walls of the manifold. Should be easy enough, though - you don't need much thread engagement, can seal easily, and can grind off anything which sticks into the manifold so it won't disturb the fluid flow.

Thanks, also looks like there may be something brushed on to form a seal, would anyone recommend anything to avoid a leak from the tap? Want to avoid anything getting down in there that shouldn't be though.

Of which pics are you referring to?

The one right above now, with the tap for the brake line. Is there anything brushed on the fitting before inserting into the itb? Right now we have a plastic piece in there and working to replace with metal.
The engine looks great, nice work.

Nothing brushed on.

But if IRRC I use some Teflon tape on the threads.

Teflon tape came in different "flavour" but in this case "White" is fine.

Tape Color Description

White: Single or double density, should only be used on NPT threads up to 3/8 inch in diameter

Yellow: Double density, often labeled as “gas tape”

Pink: Triple density, required on all joints 1/2″ or larger
