				Master key from valet key?

Any easy way to get a locksmith to make me a couple of black masters keys using the red as a template?

The 1976 912E that I brought home last week only came with the two red valet keys. I do not have the key code/numbers. I do have two black master blanks. Side note #1: neither red key works in the passenger door and I suspect it has to do with the fact it's the valet key - although the owner's manual says they should work both doors. Side note #2: the red key looks different than the black blank - profile towards the head. Thanks in advance. Bill K

My red key was made from the black ones as I think the key blank profile handles the valet function and vice versa. My old shop cut the red using the blacks as template and it perfectly opens only what is it supposed to. Not sure why it wouldn't be the same in reverse. Perhaps test the hypothesis using a hardware store or Home Depot blank before using your real blanks.

All I had when I got my car was a red valet key. I had a black blank master key cut from it and it worked out fine. The key looks different but it will work. Oddly enough the red nor the black key open my passenger door as well and I just thought it was because maybe the handle had been replaced at some point.

I'm trying to remember... 25 years ago plus I've been drinking... But I think I gave the Porsche dealership my chassis number and they cut me a correct key (instead of a copy of a copy of a copy... as most people do) which has been working perfectly ever since.

Is it possible the passenger lock is different? That car is 40 years old and perhaps someone swapped out a broken door handle with a working one.
