New crossover oil line routing with--SSI's

I soaked my thermostat everyday for a couple weeks with Deep Creep, and the fitting came right off! I love that stuff. Anyway, first time at this, so I'm not sure where the upper line is supposed to cross under the body in relationship to the return line back to the oil tank.

Do I have it right as pictured? (new line between return line and engine) Or should the new line go between the return line and the wheel? I don't have the lines tight yet at the thermo, just threaded on for a test fit. Thanks.

No, there will be no room between the return line and the engine for it.

It goes between the return line and the wheel.

Do not tight any joint until every things is fitted.

Good luck with that... I couldn't get mine to work without it crimping the line.
Looked up posts checked with Chuck, everyone said it worked fine but not for me.
I ended up buying a high clearance line and it's fine.

I had a kinked line like that up in the fender well on my 78 some years ago when I did the mocal up grade. found the idea here, but even with my kink that bad 3 hose clamps on the hose kept it round and helped make the curve with out kinking. just tighten them to the circumference of the hose spacing them an inch or so apart and no more kink.

I monitored it to be sure, it din't look r-gruppe, never kinked again for like $4 in hose clamps.

The OEM supplier of the back dated oil lines is now using cheap thinner walled rubber that kinks. I've seen a lot of this in the last few years. Swapped the hose out with an old but brand new OEM unit and problem solved. Also have used the hose clamp trick which I don't like but is seems to work.

So what's the high clearance and mocal lines you speak of? I've never heard of these, and I've read a lot about SSIs it seems.

Correct.

That is why I mentioned at post # 2 not tight any joint until every things is fitted and look good. That include the doubled curve holder to the frame.

It took me a little while to find the perfect angles.

the mocal I reference is a cooler kit that is an upgrade from the SC trombone cooler set up that used to be had for a reasonable price. it had the cooler, short lines to tie cooler to existing fender oil lines and mounting hardware. had to lose the horn or go to a puck type when installed.

mocal does make thermostats and other oiling components for Porsche applications.

Earlier chassis, like my 71 don't have an indentation in the inner wheel well to allow normal oil line routing and still clear the wheel/tire. So when adding a front cooler, some use the Elephant Racing high clearance line that loops up in the wheel well above the tire and back down the other side.

Got my engine in yesterday and the oil line fitted up. I took my sweet time and tried to find the best possible position with light pressure on the fittings. I ended up finding a spot that seems to work well. There is no kink, but just a slight flattening. I may put a couple wide cable ties on it if it looks like its getting worse. I may replace this with one of Len's lines. Didn't even know he made those when I started this.

I think you will see in my pic's I didn't have the other line installed at all, so no confusion with under or over option at that stage.

Here is a shot of another hose with NO kink whatsoever...........



I think this is a matter of length of hose. The aftermarket Hoses being shipped now are just a bit too long.

Alternately, the one that is kinked could be put in a tube bender and the steel tube angle adjusted/corrected.

Just my opinion.
