Carrera 3.2 DME Connections: Name? Removal Method?
How do you disconnect these things? What are they called?
I see where you can pull out the brass "key" but that doesn't seem to make pulling these ports apart any easier? What's the secret to pulling these apart and not damaging them? You can see a mouse has decided my temp sensor plastic is tasty. ![]()

That type of connector is called "Junior power timer". (And I have no clue why!)
To release it you press the wire on the side of toward the connector housing.

You can remove the plugs on the left-hand side of the plate in your photo by removing the square wire rings at the base of each connector. Once these have been removed (don't lose them!) the connectors slide off very easily.
It will be easier if you first unbolt the entire connector plate from its mount on the engine -- two 10mm bolts, not visible in your photo, behind the connectors. The Bentley manual says that you can simply slide out the locking plate to release the connectors on the right hand side. Mine has two small phillips screws that need to be removed first -- which I didn't notice until I tried prying the locking plate with pliers. |

Take the keys/locks off of the connectors ( Be careful they will fly off )and remove the brass locking plate off too.
The two connectors will now release from each other.

The keys/locks are the thin metal bands wrapped around the connector? You pry them out with a small screwdriver?
I know this may be simple once I see it apart, but I'm not quite understanding the helpful advice.

No need to remove the wire (and loose them 9 times out of 10). Remove the brass lock plate and do as Quicksilver post (#2).

You might want to take a look at your rubber piece on the venturi, it looks cracked. You can see it on the background.
Just disconnect it, slide heat shrink tubing over it, reconnect and heat it |

I've never had to remove the wire clip, just unplug it.
On the C2 injectors you have to move the clip to unplug but it's visually built that way Bruce |

Agreed - the clips are springy and will give.

I had to gently take the wire clips off to get them apart. With them on, I was pulling harder than I should need to for separation and they weren't budging. As soon as I pulled the wire clips off they separated with relatively little effort. This is an '84 Carrera.
Thanks for all the help and yes that venturi hose connections is the next project.
