Beru Plug connector alternatives

Hi Guys getting the 911 running again after sitting a while... New Gas purg and refresh with premium , new fuel filter new oil and filter , new battery, valve adjustment, carbs (40IDAs) jet pull/ idle and mains= clean , pump diaphragms good.

What are the symptoms of bad Plug connectors I think they may be the originals and while I have a MSD Ign. with hall effect points. I think I may not be delivering spark at times. Pulled one of the connectors and it was 125 Ohms not so bad but I need to check them all . I was reading the internal resistor can get old and crack. I have some good plug wires but left the stock connectors . Can I just grab some late model plug connectors lots of 4 cam cars now have long connectors what options are there?

Its odd, I Put a heavy leather glove on and pulled plug wire by its connector on Rt side no change in idle. Did the same for next plug on that side same result no change. Saw similar result (no change ) when turning in idle adjustment mixture all the way in - on those 2 cylinders. Went to Left side and tried the plug connector pull and got shocked through the glove and stopped.

It seems to rev up well, sounds great >3K just idle seems off and transition from low mid throttle seems to have some detonation sounds - maybe I still need to pull the carbs and go through them.

If you have an inductive timing light it works great to check that you have consistent spark going to each plug. Just move the inductive pick up to each plug wire and shine it on the crank pulley. You should see a steady flash. Skipped flashes indicate a missed plug firing that could be related to the resistors breaking down in the connector. If the timing mark on the pulley isn't steady it could indicate a worn distributor or cross firing between cylinders in the rotor or between plug wires.

plug connectors

Thanks, I have an electronic advance-able Snap on timing light. I think the MSD ignition with its multiple sparks at lower RPMS can be confusing.
Best I remember the multiple sparks stop at mid or 3K rpm so I can check total advance that way. If the insulator has a problem and the timing light is upstream of it it seems the timing light would flash either way ? Maybe its only going to flash with an actual spark happening as the high tension meets ground like at the plug or another short?

Question

1. simple - the spec for the plug connectors/wires-to-cap is 3K ohms

the wires are not resistor type, so the spec is actually for the connector alone - that's how Porsche designed the system so that ALL cyls have same firing voltages

your 125 ohms is way less than that 3K spec - so it is NOT causing any resistance or misfire

an inductive light only says your wire is conducting enuf juice to fire the plug

- it does not tell you what the voltage or resistance is

check this Rebuilding Beru plug connectors

or just google it

pre test

I just did another test on the one connector I have had out of the car .
Such a mixed bag of readings no ohms or response then tap it turn it upside down and its a moving target 15-14-12 M ohms another tap nothing then 1200 ohms. Opening this one and the other 5 will be interesting. I am running some wire core Accel plug wires, but at this point have no radio and can deal with noise suppression and or swap wires later if needed for radio issues.
I may have been chasing this ghost for a while...
Ken
