Wow, that's a faster 0-60 than I thought!

I've had my somewhat ratty '75 911S for a week now, and decided it was time to G-Tech it for 0-60 and quarter mile. The car's got 187K miles on a rebuilt 2.7, SSI heat exchangers and sport muffler, and K&N filter.

The car is light, because I've taken off a bunch of stuff. No tar on the floor (12lbs!, see my other post today for the gory details), no rear rubber bumpers (7.5 lbs each!), no smuggler's box AC condenser/fan (12lbs!). Oh yeah, I also had only the driver seat in the car (40 lbs? for missing pass. side 89' Carrera 4-way power seat).

Weight before I took all this stuff off was 2465lbs, so today it was around 2385. I weigh 195, so total weight approx. 2580. Gas tank was just about empty. 205/50-16 tires all around on 7x16 Fuchs.

Factory 0-60 Time for this car, stock, was low 8-sec range if I remember correctly.

I'm really curious what 0-60 and Quarter-Mile time you think this car SHOULD run given the above information. It was a LOT faster than I thought it would be - I'm sure the SSIs have a lot to do with it.

Please chip in your guess, before looking at my GTECH runs (in the next message).

Thanks!
Colin

Okay, I took six runs on the road - down-back-down for 0-60, then down-back-down for quarter mile, all on the same stretch of road. Average of three runs:

0-60 5.98sec.
Quarter Mile 14.7sec. - I didn't write down the speeds, unfortunately. They were in the low to mid 90s.

Anyway, it shocked me how quick this car is, and even if the 0-60 time is .5 seconds optimistic, I'm a happy guy! I'm starting to wonder if there is a short gearset or something in it, as I don't have complete records. But I did hit 60mph in second gear....

Damn! Colin...
That scooting out pretty quick for that ole Gal!
great to hear that the weight played such a huge factor... I still think that removing weight is the cheapest best performance upgrade one can make to the car.
Cool! great post!

That's totally believable with the mods you have on the 2.7 combined with the *significant* amount of weight you've stripped from your car. I've always found the gtechs to be fairly accurate (err consistent .2-.3 sec optomistic compared to actual timeslips) as long as you use them correctly (long stretch of flat highway, try not to jerk hard on the launch).
