The Journey Begins- 911ST recreation

We are starting with a very straight lwb shell. As you can see, there is some rust, but this will all be removed, replaced. This is going into the oven to melt off the undercoat, then media blasting, prep, then back to the metal shop for strengthening, flares, other mods . Flares will be steel recreation of the ST

Motor thoughts revolve around a built up 3.2 or 3.4 with various induction choices for fast reliable road work. Short geared 915 with tall 5th, our seats, roll bar, center fill gas tank, etc etc

We will keep posting pics as we progress. We are working with the client to individualize this one , so it is more unique than "usual"

Target date will be for R Gruppe Treffen in early October.

Let's have some fun !

Subscribed... this is sooooo exciting, I love the ST projects!

Questions: Is there any concern with the 'Oven Treatment' deforming the tub? What type of rust treatment is preformed after the process?

Thanks, Wayne.

You should go with a high revving MFI motor- 2.5ss with S cams. It would fit the vintage racer theme- when the cars and tracks were dangerous and the drivers were good.

a 2.5 would be fun, but too peaky and fuel sensitive in really hot weather. Ever drive a mfi or weber car in traffic on a 100 degree day? no fun ! So a more reliable electronic injection (either wong-ed motronic, or ITB set up ) with a big motor that spins to 7k is in the future.

Car will be registered out of California, and color is a secret for now- it will be stunning!

Ones already being done, as well as a lilac RSR.

Color based on the original color of the tubs.

FYI..... the easiest way to subscribe to a thread and save Wayne some Server space is to use "Thread Tools" at the top of a post and click subscribe.

I got a soft spot for ST's too
