Setting re-anodization expectations
After reviewing the vast number of threads about Fuch refinishing, I'm going to call Al Reed tomorrow. Before I do that I was hoping someone make sure I'm not totally high, in regard to expectations.
I recently traded a leg for a pair of 7R wheels. They look great, like this: ![]() I plan on refinishing a pair for deep 6's to go with the 7R's. Unfortunately, they look like this: ![]() Am I expecting too much???

hard to tell from pics Greg...my suggestion would be to trust the refinisher, let him be the judge. All depends on how deep those gouges are, I guess....

Al can and does work miracles. But if you're thinking of the car as a concours conquerer, then you might want to consider Wheel Enhancement. They're crazy-expensive, but very meticulous.

Yeah, steel lug nuts. Remember, my car came from the factory with two options - a radio and those sexy chromed steel wheels. The Fuchs were acquired by the last owner for track use. He didn't have center caps either - I bought those.
Jack, not concours. Just want'em looking better than they do now.

Everything I can see in that picture would be easy for Al to fix. He fixed a row of 1/4-inch-deep curb gouges for me.

Al can do amazing things. He won't take the work unless he's confident they'll come out looking great. If they were my wheels, I'd trust his opinion.

Greg,
Regardless of which refinisher you use, plan on sending one of your 7Rs along as a finish sample. Matching the finish on the 6s will be much easier if the guy has a sample in hand to use as a reference. Remember to send the below the knee wheel, and keep the other firmly attached. Regardz,

My wheels turned out fine. I will use Al Reed again and do recommend him to all.
Here's how the worst scratch turned out. ![]() ![]() I don't even notice it now.

Here is what you can reasonably expect from a good refinish/re-anodise. These were ugly big time. Rash, gouges, hits.

Wow, I must say before discovering this BBS I didn't appreciate the Fuchs wheels as much as I do now. I always knew they where extremely well made...now I'm sorry I sold the 7s and 8s from my Carrera.
