RA-1s on 16x7&9 fitment questions. 225x50x16 up front.
It looks like for fronts I'd have to try to cram 225x50x16 onto my 16x7 wheels. The car is a 74 Carrera/Hot Rod type car so narrow / standard flares up front.
How hard is it to fit the 225x50x16 up front? The 205x55x16 that I've been running have grabbed the fender lip a couple of times. I'm a bit concerned but would like to run the RA-1 for a while. The reason for this I'm getting 4 of the 245x45x16 to run square on the 914/6 GT race car for a little while and will have 2 sets of rears to utilize on the 74 911 so need some RA-1s up front to match. The only thing they have that might work is the 225x50x16. THoughts?

RA1 225/50x16 on 7 have a section width of ~234mm, I don't know whose 205 you have tried, but the usual s/w for these on a 7 is ~220mm. So ~14mm more width, 1/2 on each side of the tire. The 225 will stick out ~7mm more than a 205. The 225/50 is about the same height as a 205/55 so no help there either. A possibility to ease the installation is to use a 225/45 x16 which is ~ 1" shorter and provides commensurately more clearance. Not an R tire but Toypo R1R is an extreme performance tire that is available in both 225/45 & 225/50 sizes Though If going this route I'd rather have 225/45 and 245/45.

I have 225/50 RA1s on 8" Fuchs (951 offset) on my 86 Carrera.
They only fit with maximum negative camber (stock upper mounts) and rolled lips |

How stiff is your front suspension? ...just curious. I'm probably just going to try and make it work for at least one tire season. ...only reason I'm really asking is because I'm pulling the 16x9s off the 911 and going to run them next weekend on the race car and I'd like to run RA-1s. I'll need to put them back on the 911 and will have to get some fronts to work. I'll just dial in a little negative camber for now.

![]() The last resort is to raise the ride height.

I run 225/50/16 and 245/45/16 Toyo Proxies TR1 on shaved/trimmed front fenders (car sits lower than stock). Though shaved I still have slight rubbing on hard cornering on my left fender. Most probably if your height is standard may not be the case.

Rideheight and alignment will impact fitment, as will rolling/flattening the fender lips. Ran 225/50-16s on both 7" and 951 8" fuchs on the front of my SC. Passenger side was fine. Drivers side rubbed.. spent toms time with hammer on the lip and it rubbed less. Did not rub on the street, only under the stresses of heavy track use.
