Patina Wrap

I'm sure this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but its mine and I like it.

What do you with a cosmetically challenged track car? Distress it even more!

I picked up this Euro 85 Carrera ex-track car a few months ago because it was a great deal and I thought it would make an interesting project. Track cars can be a good starting point for Hot Roding because lots of the expensive stuff has already been done, Brakes, suspension, engine, safety. The thing is, they are usually kind of beat up so they go for a discount. And you don't feel bad about screwing up a nice original car.

This is the obligatory before

There is a great thread here on how to wrap it yourself so I won't go into that. This is the process of sitting down with a graphic designer and going over tons of pictures of rusty cars, photographing real rust and laying out the design.

After the car is carefully measured and the design laid out, it is printed in sections.

Time wise it takes about two days to install, the printing takes about a day as well but is done before hand. Here is the work in progress.

The finished product:
Waiting for a letter from the HOA telling me I need to move my junk car off the street

In good company.... I wouldn't want it to get rusty.

I really like that! There is something about rust and paint - especially green weathered paint - that just looks great. It's a ballsy move actually paying for that effect but it came out great.

Well, the graphic designer is definitely easy on the eyes (much more so than the wrap)!

My custom homebuilder friend tells me that faux water spots on the ceiling is all the rage these days. I'm starting to believe him.

Considering you have 3 beauties in the garage, I think adding a distressed version is great! Wish I had a garage like that

Looks great. When you are tired of it you can pick something new.

How does your lift work? There doesn't seem to be a post on the right side of the new wrapped car?

Not at all, the total cost was $2300. They were running a 50% off special for the design. 8 hours of design for $250 vs $500 though I think they spent more than 8 hours on the design.

Here is a link to the company that did the work:

I like it! Although, I already own a Rob original, so my opinion might be considered biased.
