My 993 interior in progress
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to share the pictures I took recently of the changes that are taking place in my interior. The removable steering wheel never ceases to be amusing . Lots more to come like pedals and custom grey RS panels. I'll also be stripping out the rest of the sound padding and some of the carpet. ![]() Seats from the front.

looking good
one thing i know is if you put a seat that matches your driving seat on the passenger side you'll end up with a HORRIBLE blind spot. you'll appreciate the removable wheel even more if you ever go with a full cage.

Very nice Princeton. Please elaborate on the sound deadening removal. Have you done this yet? There is an aweful lot of it in a 993 and I'm curious what parts you took out and how far you went with it?

Rick- pretty simple, Recaros fit in any 911 and similar items are made for everything else. You just need to take the plunge and buy all the little parts.
John- I haven't done much of it yet. Mostly just the padding above the floorboard. It'll be my Spring Break project to rip up all the carpeting and remove that trampoline like padding under the rear seat area and surrounding the center console. After that though none that I know of should exist any more. I'll just be recovering it with the carpet. I really couldn't believe how soft and cushy they made these things. Love the ducktail on your 993 by the way.

Could you show a better picture of the console and can a 993 console be retrofitted to a earlier car, i.e. an '88? Looks very cool BTW.

The console of a 964/993 are identical and no they cannot be retrofitted without fabrication and great difficulty. You see, the 964/993 use an entirely different floorpan/chassis having a high center tunnel - much higher than the earlier cars which look flat by comparison. The console sits on top of this and the handbrake/shifter are entirely different in design, placement and function on the later cars.
That said, I've heard people have done it somehow. I can't figure out why you'd want to go through the trouble to rework a faux central tunnel area but then again who am I to judge what someone fancies in their 911? |

Excellent work, I like it....
Two questions if you don't mind me raping your thread 1. Under the rear parcel shelf on my 87 cab there's heaps of sound deadening. Do you have this on the coupe too? If so are you going to remove this and what effect will that have on the refittment of the parcel shelf, or are you going to paint/carpet that area? 2. I looked at an 88 coupe yesterday which had a different consol to my 87. It looked more subsantial but very similar in design. Does anyone know about this...were there some variations on a common theme? Cheers Mark

John- I sure will. Sounds like you've done it. Is it really 40 pounds? Didn't expect quite so much in weight. Not that I'm complaining
.Mark- Theres an insane amount of padding under my jumpseat area in the coupe. Goes from the floorboard up the the rear panel covered with leather. I'll be removing this for sure but since I dont have the rear seats in anymore I'll just be recovering it with a layer of thin carpet. Not sure on your second question. Eric- Thanks. Your car is awesome. I can only dream of being 2300lbs for now..... Sometimes I envy the old chassis weight.
