who makes a GOOD floor jack?

I'm sick of going through a crappy Craftsman floor jack every year. I'm ready to step up to a good jack, but I don't know where to look or what to look for. Any ideas? The lower clearance the better

Lincoln jacks are good, but pricey.

The US made Lincoln jacks and jack stands were nice quality (I have both).
Lincoln moved there production to China a few years ago.When I was in the market for a 2nd set of jackstands I got another set of Lincoln stands that were made in China. The paint flaked off them as I removed them from the box so I returned them.

Brunholtz (sp?). Very expensive. I waited until I got a great deal on one on evilbay. It lasted through the first season without any problems. Extra short for very low cars. Three pumps and it's fully extended. Fully serviceable.

Considering that I have had my jack for over 20 years, I would say a good one is worth the investment. The convienience of not having to drive a car up on blocks to jack it is also worth a couple of bucks. However, you can always go to Sam's Club or buy a better quality Sears jack on sale.

There are some businesses in the Charlotte / Mooresville / Concord area that sell used racing parts. They get items from usually the bigger teams like Roush, Penske etc. and these items sometimes include aluminum quick lift racing jacks, jack stands and other garage equipment. You might check some of their web sites or give them a call. I have found bargains from time to time. Prices for the racing jacks will be much higher than Sears or Sams but they are the best quality and very light weight.

Also if you live near here there are auctions at various race shops several time each year - usually in the fall and winter. I have gotten some great buys on shop equipment at these auctions.

I too have had an excellent history with my floor jacks. You need to pony up ($$$) for a quality jack. Mine have had some extreme use for the 23+yrs that I have had them. I do not remember what the brand name is, and the are in my shop right now, but I don't feel like going out there through the snow to look. Instead of buying a "disposable" (as in cheap) jack, get a quality jack, it should last many years, and with parts available, can be rebuilt if need be. Good luck!! Tony.

For a 911, the old (2 1/4 - 2 1/2 ton) Hein Warner. Long reach to lift the car high enough. Separate valve control knob at the end of the handle which I find easier than twisting the whole handle. These haven't been made for awhile, but if you find one with all of the pieces, they can usually be rebuilt.

The Craftsman jack that I got in about 1980 was a great jack until the seals started to go last year. (I think it was made by Lincoln for Sears) The new Craftsman stuff is junk in more ways then one.

I decided that with the length of time that I expect to use such an important tool that it was worth it to choke down the price and get the jack I really wanted: The AC DK13HLQ. It is so good that it changes how you think about getting under the car. Lifting the car with my old jack took a bit of planning and was done in multiple stages. Now it is just, "Lift it".
- It looks like Wayne is currently having trouble getting the DK13HLQ but there are a few other places out there that have them. (One in Florida has free shipping!)

BTW - Does anyone know a good jack repair shop? The main cylinder of my old jack needs new seals and I would really like to have it as a second jack.

Chuck, that's a great jack for an older car.
On my 965 I can't get it high enough with a 20 inch jack because of the super compliant motor mounts. Looks like I have no alternative than the AC jack.

I have a great old Hein-Werner that needs rebuilt. The cost of the rebuild kit was just quoted as $125.00?!? Great jack that is about 30 years old but now leaks so badly it is unusable. Anyone know a source for the rebuild kit other than my local (loco?) hyd repair shop?

If you really want a professional-level jack that will last a lifetime (and rebuildable), you cannot do better than Hein-Werner. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Racing jacks can be had for a little less $$$, but these are made for occasional use only.

I've lost 2 friends to cheap jacks and jackstands so I am VERY particular about what supports the car when I am working on it.

I just googled Hein-Werner. Turns out that they make my old Lincoln jack. Even the paint is the same. "USA Made Hein Werner Floor Jack Formely W93642 Lincoln"
I've had mine for 5 at least and I love it.

ok i bought this floor jack. it is made my AMERICAN forge and foundry.



it works pretty nice. i have dropped a motor maybe 10 times with it. low profile. pisser is that despite the friggen name of the company, the jack is made in china. i like the slow lowering of the jack. i have used some fast jacks, and dropping a motor fast, is scary.
