930s steering wheel spacer question

Hi,

I'm thinking of ordering the 930s style steering wheel. Can anyone tell me why I would or would not want the wheel spacer option?? I'm not sure if it is something I should be ordering too. Thanks, Sarah~

I don't have the wheel, but I recall from prior threads people said without the spacer the rim of the wheel (at the 12 o'clock position) is too close to the dash pad (above the instruments) and they bruise their hulking knuckles. Apparently the spacer gives more room.

I seem to think it also positions the center of the wheel higher to give more thigh clearance. Not that any of us bee-u-tee-full Porsche People need more thigh clearance, of course.

Hopefully someone who has the wheel will chime in.

I have the wheel and the spacer. The spacer is worth it, for the reasons John mentions above. Easier to get in and out of the car. No clearance issues with the dash, and better visibility of the gauges.

I do have the wheel and the adapter. All of what John said, plus you can see more of the tach and speedometer.

Sarah,
I'm going to be the lone dissenter here. I did not like the position of the wheel with the spacer installed. It felt kind of like driving a tilt wheel car with the wheel tilted up. I took it out and like the wheel much better now.

I did not install the spacer. I can only see half of the speedometer but I love the way it's positioned. I don't have a problem getting in and out and my fingers never touch the dash. I figure I don't really need to see that side of the speedo anyway. Sometimes it's just best not to know.

I also have the wheel and spacer and love the access the combo affords although the offet of the hub takes a little getting used to. Seems like the audience is split on this one. I feel a poll coming on...

Uh, maybe I should rephrase that...

Sarah, I do not have the spacer either. There is plenty of clearance between the wheel and the dash, tho I did rotate my speedo for easier viewing. The wheel has a great look and feel to it.

Again...thanks for all the input. I think I will order the spacer too "just in case" that way I will have it available. I appreciate all of the points of view!
