Well given that there is no such thing as a flawless car with 52,000 miles on it, i will presume it to be in excellent condition for the mileage and age. If so, I would think $25 - 28K. This is assuming sports seats, full leather interior, LSD, etc.

I'd say 32k.

Well, since that car has been for sale for quite a while, it's obviously worth less than the seller thinks!
Seriously, it does look like an excellent example, but it is still a turbo LOOK. If I wanted to spend over $30k, I'd buy a real 930, or maybe a early 993. Personally, I think it would (should) be worth no more than $26k.Side note: Don't mind me, I am just bitter about the high asking prices for these cars (M491 coupes), as I am looking for one myself.

$20K in SoCal, unless it's Pomona where all p-cars are $7K.

So Cal Porsche's
Can anyone refer me to sites that might list local cars for sale in So. Cal.? If prices in CA are markedly less than those elsewhere, I'll step up my search efforts in that region. At least I'd be 99% sure it would pass CA smog!!!!!!!!!!
![]() Is it that there's so many for sale in CA? There seems to be a TON of targa's on the market right now. I wonder why that is?

You and me both!!!!!!!
Asking price, by the way, is $32,500.............. It is an absolutely gorgeous car. The aggressive looks of a Turbo, with the sensibility of a standard 3.2L engine. The price is a little too steep for me, for an '88 that is. I'd push to $28K or $29K for that car, but that's as far as I'd push. The tough thing is, the price is in 3.6L territory..........

Hmmm, wonder how difficult it would be to slip in a 3.6...

That is a beautiful car, but the turbo-look always puzzled me. Is it a pretend turbo? Does the 3.2 push the normal Carrera too far? On top of it all, the t look is actually slower and has less top end due to all that wind resistance. If your going drive that car, isn't better to have the HP that belongs to it. Or put a 3.6 in it.

Where is this car?
Hello,
I'd like to know if there is a URL for the car pictured in this ad? Do you have any contact information for this person? Thanks, Ed

'88 with 52k=18 to 20k
M491=4k (new option) and 4k the rest of its life factoring in rarity and inflation That car=a nice one for 24k! (IMHO) (Also looking for a low mile M491 coupe!)

Is it a documented factory turbo look? Makes a huge difference in price. If so, and the car is as good as it looks in the picture, I'd say $22K tops.

After having driven both a 930 and an 87 911 Carrera on the track, the Turbo look cars make much more sense to me. The 930 brakes are awesome, and the Turbo look cars have these I believe. The 3.2 engine, with less power but a more responsive low end, make the car lighter, easier to maneuver, and easier to stay in the power band at the track. Given that people spend thousnads of dollars just to upgrade to 930 brakes, the Turbo look is not that different in price.

MY read on the value of the car would be 28500.00 to 30k
and as far as the negitive comments about the turbo look, I think thats what Porsche should of had in mind for the 911 since the first 77 turbo. Keith |

do searches on autotrader.com, cars.com, etc and use a SoCal zip code (91104 is Pasadena...kinda centally located). And remember that asking price is just that. Back when I was looking you'd see cars being listed for long periods of time unless the price was low. Buyers can afford to pick and choose out here. Still, really nice cars are a bit tougher to find, but if you aren't picky, you can get almost anything quickly.

I plan on being VERY picky this go around. If I have to buy a used Honda Civic to tool around town in until I find something, so be it.
There's actually a guy down the street from me selling an '87 BMW 5287e that looks to be in immaculate condition. He's asking $4,500, but folks tell me it's worth closer to $3K. Maybe I'll make him an offer, because I know that's something I could turn around after I find a Porsche, and not lose any money in the process.

It's really easy to kept caught up in the infaturation of a neat car the first time you see it. If you really are serious about getting a "good" deal, I'd consider what your "BATNA"s (Best Alternative To a Negotiated Agreement) are. By this I mean what are your alternatives to closing THIS deal? Most have been discussed here.
1) What could you buy a real Turbo for? 2) What could you buy a regular 3.2 for? Plus a Turbo brake upgrade? 3) What are other Turbo looks going for? This may sound obvious, but is often forgotton when the "Red Mist" sets in. It happens to me all the time!

Indeed, I had Red Sleet when I bought my first Porsche!
This go-around there will be no impulsive buying. I've already learned my lesson, and this time I'm going to use that lesson as my guide!!

Good advice, do alot of research and have several cars in mind to look at & possibly buy. This does look like a nice example, but always have your PPI done to see how flawless it really is...Without driving it, I would say anywhere between $23-29k...Good luck!

Please. It ain't that nice! Look how cloudy those H5's are!!!!!
Car looks pretty sweet with the white centered wheels. I guess the turbolook is a nice alternative to the turbo in that you get the 5 spd. trans (89 turbo only) and 3.2 motor if you don't really care for the turbo motor. Still, the real Turbo has to be a hoot when it comes to acceleration. Price seems a little steep. The rarer models seem to be that way.
