tire options for 15" 88 carrera rears?

Hi

I've been looking to buy 2 new 215/60R15 tires that should be summer tires with V or better speed rating

very few options, some are more than $300 a piece

what do you guys use for these stock rims?

thanks

Been an issue for a while now, pirelli p6000 are Porsche recommended, but pricy - be sure to run same tires front and back. Much better selection in 16 inch sizes (205/55-16 front and 225/50-16 rear)

if you search on 15" tires you will find many threads.

Most people running 15" are using semi race rubber in 225/45 or 225/50 size on the rear. If that is not your thing and you dont want to spend $300 I would go to 17" fake fuchs. Pretty good look and tons of tire options. The good news is the 15" fuchs will probably sell for more than the 17" fakes cost. (unless you go to the 3 piece forged fake fuchs)

I got a set of 16" Fuchs a few days ago. I got what appeared to be original equipment size for this car:

911.361.020.43 16x6 with 205 rubber
911.361.020.44 16x7 with 225 rubber

before that I had original 88 carrera rims that were:

15x7 with 205 rubber and 15x8 with 215 rubber

so I am a bit confused here:

1) these 16" rims are 1 inch narrower than the 15s. Is that how it is supposed to be?

2) despite that, they wear either same width (front) or wider (rear tires)

3) the rear wheels seem to have a lower offset so the wheel looks like it is more towards the inside of the car, causing it to have a narrower track.

Am I missing something?

different sizes were offered in different years and different markets
for US My88
standard stock was 6 & 7 x15 Phone dials w/ 185/70 or 195/65 & 215/60 tires but most were optioned w/ either 7 & 8 x15 Fuchs w. the same 185/70 or 195/65 & 215/60 tires or w/ 6 & 7 x16 Fuchs w/ 205/55 & 225/50 tires

the factory often uses narrower wheels on w/ the same tires for 2 reason
1) cheaper
2) better ride at the expense on performance

You can fit Fuchs 7" x15 or 16 fronts w/ up to 225/ 50 or 45 tires and up to 9" rear w/ 245/45 tires

w/ custom offset aftermarkets up to 8 & 9.5 w/ 235 & 275 tires

one thing I don't like at the 16 fuchs is that the center black is about the same size and the added radius is made up of the silver shiny outer ring. Is there any forged original fuchs 16 rim that is a scaled up version of the 15, i.e. has a bigger middle section and about the same size outer ring?

also, I kinda like the way the center piece is recessed in the rear 8x15, but the new one is almost flat. so is there some original fuchs that has same depth but in 16" version?

You could track down a pair of 8 x 16" wheels. Move your 7s to the front and use the 8s on the rear. It won't eliminate the black centre section size, but it won't be as obvious as the flat face on the 6s you currently have up front. The tire size from 6/7 x 16 to 7/8 x 16 would remain the same at 205 and 225.

There is the possibility you may have to roll your front fenders slightly on a 7 x 16 wheel and 205/55-16 tires. However, some people don't require it. I did a little bit.

I've been reading almost every single thread here on 15" wheels/tires and trying to make the 15x7/8 set that came on my '85 non-turbo work. I really like the rim width, but I dislike the tire options — either too much rubber or too little.

The 16x6/7 combo seems like a very sensible solution for tires, but as Bavarese's diagram above shows, losing that really nice dish in the front rim width is quite a sacrifice for me as well.

Canada Kev, I agree, 16x7/8 sounds like the way to go for the looks and tire selection I’m wanting, but how does it affect the handling? Also, I'd rather not have to roll my fenders as you mention, but are you on US stock height or Euro spec height? Would be great to see a side profile pic and a 3/4 angle shot to compare the fit on another non-turbo car.

Going to be a bummer to see these freshly refinished 15s go but seems like they only work best on skinny track applications or slightly too big like the way the car came to me now: 205/60+225/60. I don't hate hate it, but I also don't like the idea of driving mismatched brands anyway so I need new tires (currently Goodyear+Pirelli mix).

Bavarese, your 15" setup actually looks great and I would run that… but I think that tire combo is basically extinct and rules that setup out now, or am I missing something?

First post - thanks. Any new info or suggestions appreciated.
