911 1983 turbo won't start please help

Boys help required again

I have left the 930 covered for some time now and it hasn't been started .i eventually bought a new battery just installed it .There is fuel in it but I put it in a long time ago about 20 litres ,I go to turn the car over today .all the dash board lights come on then when I turn the key "BUMP"! Nothing more than a thud noise from behind me every time I go to turn it over ,try again turn the key and "bump"

I'm lost I have no idea where to go from here ? The engine could be damp but the car has been covered under a car cover outdoors for some time .Where do I start please boys any help would be appreciated .

I was hoping to get this car up and out again .

Start at the beginning. Does the motor turn over by hand? If it'll turn, then move on to checking the starter. Solenoid and starter are integrated on the Bosch starter (can't just replace solenoid). Jack up the car with a friend and see if the solenoid is engaging the starter.

As the others have posted, But I will add a bit more advice from my own experiences with the 911 I have owned, the oil from the tank will slowly drain into the sump over time, and some of the oil could have passed into the cylinders, this could be the reason the engine will not turn, as its creating a hydraulic lock, so start with the simple things first, try turning the engine over by hand with a spanner on the crankshaft pulley bolt, if it will not turn, then you will need to investigate further, first I would sugest removing the spark plugs, and try again to turn the engine over by hand, if it turns, then your in luck, if not, then it could be more serious, but hopefuly not, let us know how you get on, there are many very knowlegable people on here, and I am sure between us, we can get to the bottom of whats going on.
Good luck with it.
