Front struts

At slow speeds ( idle rolling ) a metal to metal bumping .... while stopped and pushing the front up and down I sound like from the insert from the front shock is this a good indication it is time for a new one or can it be tightened up ... I have read the procedure for the replacement and if this is the case should it be attempted as a diy project with the wheel alignment that will now be required ... thanks for any advise

Sounds like it's time for an upgrade; the metal on metal bumping that's happening; have you looked at the bushings as well?

If you have Bilsteins, you can pull them out and just replace the inserts. I don't think this will impact the alignment.

Could just be a loose insert. The nut at the top that holds the insert in has been known to come loose.

Or the the bushings and shocks could be worn out. Lots of threads on this same subject.

Could it be a broken roll pin maybe it was installed incorrectly by a PO?

I just did this, one tool that made the job so easy was a special roll pin punch. Get one for around $10 on amazon. I did one side with and one side with out and I can tell you it makes a world of difference.
