Pedal cluster R&R Article needed

My Bentley and tools are 1K miles away. I will be be doing a rebuilt pedal assembly swap. Anyone got a thread or anything else I can reference? Last assembly I pulled was in a 914 many moons ago....

The only real "trick" is you go in from the bottom and have to remove the master cylinder to do it.

You doing it this weekend? I have a couple of copies of the Haynes manual. You can long term borrow one if you like.

This seems to be a good read.

Going over to Ferg's today and he will assist me with the R&R. All my tools are still in CA and I, didn't bring a floor jack. Also I am guessing this a two man job.

I'll take pics and comment on areas that aren't addressed in the PP articles.

I would suggest that those with rides of 30+ years do this check and/or replacement as this isn't usually on a list of things you would be normally checking.

BTW, DO NOT use lubrication on this assembly as most lube will tend to swell the bushings and cause more grief.

Having Ferg's lift make it half as much work.

I just removed mine last week and will be reinstalling it tomorrow. The only real difficulty I had was removing the clevis pin. The plastic bushing had disintegrated and the pin really dug into the hole in the lever, making it impossible to remove. I had to cut off the clevis to remove. My pin was installed backwards by a PO, so hopefully yours will come out easier.

I'm replacing my master cylinder so I removed it first, but I don't think you have to, you just need to remove the large bolt on the drivers side of the mount.

Good luck!

What A PITA!!!!

I am guessing that a cabriolet pedal swap is a tighter deal. The 8mm Allen that holds the support was a MOFO to to a allen key into and the brake Heim Joint was a bear to get out as well. Install was reverse of removal, time consuming due to the tight fit. 13mm bolt right under the brake pedal had zero clearance to start on the stud and we had to pry the pedal base up to get it to clear and then start the nut down the stud to tighten the base to the floor.

The removed assembly looked fine for the clutch and brake parts and bushings but the accelerator assembly was FUBARed.

I'll post pics later. Dinner and a beer on the horizon.

Thanks again to Ferg, his lift and his smaller than mine hands for the tight fit using hand tools. Ratchets were limited to under the car. No room in pedal area. 2.5 hours total....So I guess 3-400 labor at a P-car shop maybe more.
