80 sc sunroof issues

I have an 80 sc with a sunroof. Lately, the roof opens fine but when I go to close it, about 60% of the travel, it slows down. Almost as if it is getting hung up. The motor that opens the roof works fine when it is disconnected from the gear box. I have tried to find access to the cables that force the roof to open or close to no avail. What is the best way to access the entire system to see what I need to do to get everything up and running. Thanks.

Maybe take a peek at our sunroof tech articles and see if they might help you to access components of the sunroof. I'm sure other Pelicans will chime in with input as well. Good luck.

You have to remove the roof then take out the tracks and cables and clean everything with a solvent like brake clean. Don't be intimidated it's not that hard to do. Search (removing and replacing sunroof cables) there's
plenty of photos to help. Also YouTube is your friend when it comes to this kind of repair.

As stated, remove the cables and guides, clean with solvent and reinstall DRY. Don't
ever use any lube or grease as it attracts dirt and debris and causes the kind of problems you are experiencing now.
