orange/brown wire with white line, what is it for

1980 911 SC Targa, took out the carpet and wood panel to gain access to the clutch cable. I found the wire in the photo just laying there by the accelerator linkage. Any idea where this goes? Thanks in advance.

Other SC owners will chime in but that is just a ground wire for maybe a auxiliary component like rear fog light??? I would tape it off as not to have an errand short.

From memory, nearly certain my U.S. 81 has the same wire in there dangling as well. My clutch switch for the cruise is hooked up so that is not it. Everything works on my car so guessing it's for a feature or option not in my car.

Spare wire in all through body harnesses. Maybe for sportomatic switch at shifter as it does go to the male 14 pin connector. It is brown/white which generally is a switched leg.
Haven't done any sportomatic harnesses other than an engine harness. Can't remember if the 14 pin female used that position. Just leave it there. Can't do any harm.

thank you everyone. You all are correct because there is no where to plug it into and very short so it's not possible to donnect it to anything nearby.
