Parts needed to install Carrera brakes in 911SC?
Hello all,
I've searched forums and researched enough to eliminate Boxster brake kits and other aftermarket solutions; but with a 3.2 going in my '82 911SC I'd like to optimize my braking by at least installing the wider Carrera front discs to offer a bit more fade resistance. However, I can't find a list of what parts I need to do so (besides the discs of course). Different calipers? Master cylinder/booster? Etc.? Any advice would be much appreciated!

No need for larger MC or booster.

abides.

FYI, the rear 3.2 calipers have larger diameter pistons, which will change your brake bias.

Hi J,
I went with the Carrera fronts on my SC.....added the spacers to the stock SC front calipers to widen them for the Carrera rotor. Stock SC on rear. PMB did the caliper work (rebuild. re-plating, etc). Slight improvement for the 3.6 power. pd |

Thanks very much—exactly the information I needed. I'd already decided to leave the rear brakes as is because of the bias issue.

Do a search for information from Bill Verberg.
I have similar brakes. Carrera front brakes, SC rear brakes (both calipers and rotors). I believe the Carrera had a bias valve installed that created a brake bias that would favor the fronts more. I am not certain, but I don't think you have this valve on your SC. The end result of not having the valve is that the balance is not unfavorable when using Carrera front calipers and rotors with SC calipers and rotors. Perhaps Bill V will elaborate. He is usually very good with his contributions. |

Thanks James. About half the useful information I found while searching was from Bill.
I was curious about the bias with Carrera fronts and SC rears, but it seemed there wouldn't be an issue. I notice Pelican has drilled aftermarket rotors for quite a bit less than non-drilled factory rotors. Does anyone have an opinion on that? Or advice on pads and fluid? Thanks again . . .

Hopefully Bill will chime in. Or, you can do the math with the charts on this site. I would like to know the exact numbers as well.

I just installed 87 front calipers and kept my 74 rears. Running without booster. Feels great. I was worried about the bias but it honestly feels perfect.

To simply answer your question, all you really need in the front are Carrera calipers and rotors. IIRC, the brake lines mate right up. If you choose to put Carrera calipers in the rear, in addition to the calipers and rotors you'll need new hard lines to the calipers (or at least I did).
I've been running Carrera calipers since about 1995 with no bias valve and have had zero issues. Edit: Love the overland expo stuff. I have an 80 series and 100 series Land Cruisers and love that stuff...
